Iberdrola España and the Provincial Council of Burgos strengthen their alliance with a new agreement to supply 100% renewable energy to more than 300 municipalities and local entities

  • Through this agreement, which will result in an 18% saving compared to current prices and is the outcome of a public tender in which Iberdrola España was awarded the contract, the company will provide municipalities included in the Provincial Council of Burgos’ centralised procurement system with its advanced management platform and a dedicated contact available 24/7, as well as advising customers on matters related to energy efficiency and electrification.
  • The contract covers a total of 3,462 supply points, including the Provincial Council of Burgos itself, municipalities and local entities in the province. The annual volume of energy supplied will amount to 32 GWh, with 100% certified as having a renewable Guarantee of Origin.
  • The increase in the number of municipalities joining the agreement reflects significant growth in its scope. While in 2023 there were 298 integrated municipalities, in 2025 the figure has reached 324, demonstrating the growing interest and commitment of local entities to this sustainable energy management model.

The Provincial Council of Burgos and Iberdrola España have signed a new framework agreement covering the electricity supply of the provincial institution itself and more than 300 associated municipalities and local entities. This centralisation of municipal services enables access to more competitive conditions.

The agreement was signed by the President of the Provincial Council of Burgos, Borja Suárez, and Iberdrola España’s Commercial Delegate in Castilla y León, Celiano García, consolidating a strategic collaboration that strengthens both parties’ commitment to energy efficiency and the improvement of public services.

This new contract, which will generate an 18% saving compared to current prices and is the result of a public tender awarded to Iberdrola España, will have an initial duration of two years with the option of an extension for up to two additional years. It also includes the joint development of new areas of cooperation in the energy field and the streamlining of management processes.

Through this agreement, Iberdrola España makes available to the municipalities integrated in the Provincial Council of Burgos’ centralised procurement system its powerful management platform and a dedicated contact available 24/7, as well as providing advice on energy efficiency and electrification.

The expansion in the number of municipalities covered reflects a significant increase in its scope. While in 2023 there were 298 integrated municipalities, in 2025 the figure has reached 324, showing the growing interest and commitment of local entities to this sustainable energy management model.

According to Celiano García, Commercial Delegate of Iberdrola España in Castilla y León: “For Iberdrola España it is an honour to renew the trust of the Provincial Council of Burgos and to continue supporting local entities in their commitment to 100% renewable energy, electrification, efficiency and the digitalisation of energy management.”

For his part, Borja Suárez, President of the Provincial Council of Burgos, stated: “This framework agreement guarantees municipalities in the province an efficient and sustainable electricity supply under the best conditions, facilitating management and contributing to local development and the energy transition in Burgos.”

Efficient, sustainable supply with personalised attention

The centralised procurement system of the Provincial Council of Burgos aims to simplify municipal administrative procedures, generate savings through economies of scale and improve contract management support. Thanks to this agreement, participating organisations will benefit from advantageous conditions for electricity supply contracts, strengthening their management and sustainability capacity, optimising their electricity consumption, reducing costs and streamlining administration, contributing to a more modern and sustainable public sector.

The agreement covers a total of 3,462 supply points, including the Provincial Council of Burgos itself, municipalities and local entities in the province. The annual energy volume supplied will amount to 32 GWh, with 100% of the energy certified with a renewable Guarantee of Origin.
