Iberdrola España launches its first solar community in Aragon
- The installation, located in Zuera (Zaragoza), will make it possible to benefit from the advantages of self-consumption without the need for its own installation or investment.
- Neighbours up to two kilometres away will be able to access the clean energy generated by the photovoltaic system, located on top of the company Materiales de Construcción Aso Romeo.
- This is the first solar community that the company has set up in Aragon, where it has more than 20 projects.
Iberdrola España has just launched its first solar community in the province of Zaragoza. The company has teamed up in Zuera with the local company Materiales de Construcción Aso Romeo, located in Calle las Cinco Villas, to promote this renewable installation that will allow residents living within a radius of two kilometres to benefit from the advantages of renewable self-consumption without the need to have their own installation or to assume the investment.
This form of community self-consumption allows users to share the 100% renewable energy generated from a single photovoltaic installation located near their home. In this case, the plants will be located on the company's roof and Iberdrola España is responsible for both the investment and the entire project process (permits, execution of the installation and maintenance).
In total, the installation consists of 129 solar panels with a total power of 59 kilowatts (kW), enough to produce more than 82 MWh annually. Thanks to this solar community, more than 100 neighbours around this company in Zuera will be able to participate in it and reduce their electricity consumption from the grid by up to 40% by using part of the energy produced by this installation.
Those who decide to join the solar community will do so without permanence, with guaranteed savings and will enjoy the same advantages as any other self-consumer. For its part, the construction material company will also be able to cover up to 40% of its electricity consumption. It should be noted that Iberdrola España has contracted an Aragonese company to assemble the photovoltaic modules.
For Luis Artigas, Iberdrola España's sales representative in Aragon, this project "will allow residents who do not have their own roof to install photovoltaic modules to enjoy the advantages of self-consumption, with the advantage of not having to make an initial investment and guaranteeing savings by consuming clean, local energy".
It should be noted that Iberdrola España is also promoting another 20 solar communities in Aragon, most of them in the provinces of Zaragoza and Huesca.
Promotion of self-consumption
Iberdrola España leads the photovoltaic self-consumption market in Spain, managing 40% of the country's self-consumption customers. As part of its commitment to accelerating the energy transition and developing new products to improve efficiency and energy savings, in 2015 the company became the first company in its sector to integrate self-consumption solutions into its range of services.
The company has consolidated its position as the benchmark company with a 150% increase in its self-consumption portfolio in the last year. Through Smart Solar, Iberdrola España offers services for all types of customers, from domestic consumers to large industrial customers.
The collective self-consumption solutions developed by Iberdrola España have made self-consumption available to any customer, whether or not they have their own roof. Customers in this segment also benefit from the Solar Plan, a competitive electricity tariff during the hours when there is no sun, which is when they need to consume energy from the grid, as during the day they self-supply from their own installation.
Self-consumption solar systems can save 30% on annual bills in the case of residents' associations; 50% for companies and businesses; and up to 70% in single-family homes. These savings are produced in three ways: the energy produced by the installation that the user does not have to buy, compensation for surplus energy not consumed, which is fed into the grid, and savings due to lower taxes.
