Iberdrola España has launched the first large ultra-fast charging station for electric vehicles in León at the La Hacienda hotel and restaurant complex in La Bañeza, making it a strategic enclave for journeys to the west of the Iberian Peninsula, as well as for the Camino de Santiago.
The infrastructure has eight electric chargers with a total power of 1,150 kW and eight points that will enable the simultaneous charging of up to eight cars 24 hours a day.
The presentation ceremony was attended by the mayor of the town of La Bañeza in León, Javier Carrera; the Director General of Energy of the Regional Government of Castile and León, Alfonso Arroyo; and the Iberdrola España delegate in Castile and León, Miguel Calvo, who explained how the infrastructure works and presented Iberdrola España's electric vehicle charging network, the most powerful in Spain.
This new station, which has the most powerful chargers on the market and forms part of the network of 35 high-power stations being developed by Iberdrola España as part of the collaboration agreement with Porsche, has two 350 kilowatt (kW) ultra-fast chargers and six 150 kW super-fast chargers that will allow up to 80% of the vehicle's battery to be charged in five to ten minutes.
Users of these facilities will charge the battery of their electric cars with 100% green energy, from renewable generation sources, with a guarantee of origin certificate (GdOs). In addition, the charging points are located on the Iberdrola España Public Charging App, External link, opens in new window. from which you can geolocate the charger, check its operation in real time and reserve and pay from your mobile phone.
The installation of the charging points in this hotel and restaurant complex in León has been possible thanks to an agreement whereby La Hacienda has provided the land and Iberdrola España has provided the equipment and its installation.
"Iberdrola España is investing heavily in this type of infrastructure to provide coverage for electric vehicle users. These are innovative facilities, suitable for any type of electric car, which allow the batteries to be charged in very short times and which, together with the network of charging points that the company has in operation in the rest of Spain, represent a definitive commitment to the decarbonisation of mobility in our country", said Calvo.
With this initiative, Iberdrola España is making progress in its plan to deploy sustainable mobility infrastructure in Spain and, specifically, in Castile and León, where it has nearly 600 public charging points in service in all provinces, 130 of which are fast and ultra-fast charging stations. In the case of León, the company has stations in the province that allow the simultaneous charging of more than 100 vehicles.
Electric mobility and green recovery
Iberdrola España currently has more than 5,000 charging points, increasing by more than one hundred new chargers per month in 2023. The main objective is to be able to install 110,000 high-efficiency charging points by 2024. The total investment is budgeted at 150 million euros and will help electric cars to have a charger every 50 kilometres less than the current 50 kilometres.
The company has also been collaborating for some time with city councils, such as Valladolid - AUVASA - and operators to help them on their journey towards emission-free mobility, and trusts the electric bus as the most sustainable, efficient and economical technological solution for mass transport of people in cities.
Similarly, in the field of heavy road transport, Iberdrola España has the first charging points in the Mediterranean Corridor for 100% electric trucks, together with the transport and logistics company Disfrimur and the company specialising in power electronics, Ingeteam.
This agreement, which has recently been extended to the rest of Spain, will install more than 160 charging points for electric trucks in the logistics bases that the transport company has located on the Peninsula. The municipality of Villadangos del Páramo in León will have the first public charging points for electric trucks in Castile and León.
