Aware that electricity infrastructures are key during the vote counting process, the company carried out a series of actions that contributed to the smooth running of the European elections
i-DE, Iberdrola España's distribution company, guaranteed electricity supply to data processing centres in the eight provinces of Castilla y León, where the company managed the distribution network − all except Segovia − throughout the election night.
The deployment of resources to restore service and minimise the impact on customers is a priority for the company. Therefore, aware that electricity infrastructures are key during the vote counting process, the company carried out a series of actions that contributed to the smooth running of the European elections.
The company, which has mobilised around 70 people − between its own resources and under contract 24x7 −, identified weeks beforehand the different facilities that supply energy to the Government Sub-delegations that became the data processing centres on the election night. The company also deployed its field team in the different provinces − the Territorial Distribution Units −which carried out an exhaustive review of the head-end positions in substations and transformer stations and also checked the status of the remote-controlled infrastructures.
Thanks to the constant work of the great team that makes up Iberdrola España's distribution company, electricity reaches our homes 365 days a year. They are not only responsible for repairing any specific incident, but also for constant maintenance and guaranteeing that the electricity supply reaches both large cities and small towns.
i-DE closed last year reaching the best year-end value in its history in terms of service quality
i-DE closed 2023 in Castilla y León reaching the best year-end value in its history in terms of service quality. Iberdrola España's distribution company manages more than 50,000 kilometres of power lines and has 15,754 transformer stations in service and 249 substations.
In recent years i-DE has undertaken an "ambitious" plan to digitalise its electricity grids, converting its more than 1.5 million meters in the region and the infrastructure that supports them into smart meters, incorporating remote management, supervision and automation capabilities.
The digitisation of the electricity distribution grid will provide more information to implement additional energy efficiency and sustainability measures, in a way that is committed to ambitious and urgent climate action. The deployment of smart grids makes it possible to respond to new models of grid use and offer a better service to citizens.
