His Majesty the King opens an exhibition in Madrid organised by the Iberdrola Group on technological developments and the future of electricity
- Alongside Ignacio Galán, Felipe VI toured the major innovations that have transformed the electricity system, as well as the advances that will drive electrification in the coming decades
- The exhibition, which can be visited free of charge until 20 October at Madrid’s Palacio de Cibeles, features historical artefacts, mixed-reality experiences, technology demonstrations and workshops for schoolchildren on the scientific foundations and applications of electricity
His Majesty the King, alongside Iberdrola GroupExecutive Chairman Ignacio Galán, today inaugurated An electrifying journey: an immersive Iberdrola experience, an exhibition marking the company’s 125th anniversary. The exhibition explores the fundamentals of electricity and its technological evolution throughout history, as well as the latest advances set to drive electrification in the coming decades.
During the opening visit, which was attended by Industry and Tourism Minister Jordi Hereu, and Mayor of Madrid José Luis Martínez-Almeida, Felipe VI viewed historically and technologically significant artefacts, discovered mixed-reality applications, explored immersive environments and attended interactive demonstrations. The common thread throughout was how technology has transformed the way we generate, distribute and use electricity.
Throughout the tour, His Majesty the King learned first-hand about the evolution of electricity applications in industry and in the everyday lives of millions of people, as well as the opportunities offered by new uses in terms of energy security, energy self-sufficiency, competitiveness and environmental protection.
Finally, the visit included the exhibition’s educational area, where 25 primary and secondary school pupils were carrying out experiments on static electricity, electrical circuits, the generation of electrical charge and the wireless transmission of energy.
A journey through time to mark Iberdrola Group’s 125th anniversary
The exhibition, which can be visited free of charge until 20 October at the Galería de Cristal at Madrid’s Palacio de Cibeles, forms part of 125 light-years, the programme through which the Iberdrola Group, of which Iberdrola España forms part, is celebrating 125 years of history in 2026. Throughout the year, the company is organising concerts, social activities and cultural initiatives to share its legacy and contribution to the economic, industrial and social development of the communities where it operates.
