Meeting of over 400 i-DE employees in Castilla y León
Castilla y León hosted the 22nd edition of the i-DE Network Business Meeting, the distributor of Iberdrola España. The event brought together over 400 employees and was presided over by Óscar Villanueva, director of i-DE in the Western Region, alongside the leaders of the Network Business in Ávila, Burgos, León, Palencia, Salamanca, Soria, Valladolid, and Zamora.
During the day, the electrification of the economy was highlighted as a strategy for sustainability and efficiency. Óscar Villanueva emphasized, “We have a great opportunity ahead of us to industrialize the country sustainably, focusing on the electrification of activities that today depend on fossil resources.”
“This transformation will allow us to reduce the emissions of pollutants that harm the environment and accelerate climate change. Initiatives such as promoting electric vehicles or using electricity to generate heat in residential and industrial settings are clear examples of how we can move toward a cleaner, more efficient model committed to the future of the planet,” he stated.
It was also highlighted that the energy transition brings great benefits both nationally and regionally, thanks to our abundant natural resources—sun, wind, and water—that are essential for generating clean and competitive energy. It is crucial to harness these resources using renewable technologies and storage systems.
In this context, i-DE leaders emphasized that all growing industries will need more electricity, which requires increasing investments in networks: “It is necessary to understand the new rules of the game to build the business plan to face this new period (2026-2031) with ambition. In this scenario, smart electrical networks are the backbone of making the energy transition possible, as they integrate renewables and connect large industrial projects.”
Villanueva concluded by reaffirming, “Betting on electrification and modern, resilient networks is an essential condition to achieve the decarbonization of the economy, advance in the energy transition, and ensure a sustainable, competitive, and high-quality future for society.”
