Iberdrola España has launched the first edition of the ‘Iberdrola FP Awards: Investing in the electrical future’, an annual programme designed to identify, recognise and attract the best students studying higher-level vocational training specialising in electricity and electricity networks.

The initiative is aimed at second-year students on the official Higher National Diploma in Electrical and Automation Systems (SEAS) programme. It aims to bring the company closer to vocational training centres, promote technical careers and facilitate the entry of qualified young people into a strategic sector undergoing major transformation, while also highlighting the important work carried out by training centres and their teaching staff.

Through this programme, Iberdrola España aims to contribute to generational renewal and attract specialised technical talent, while reinforcing values that are essential to the company, such as safety, professional excellence, innovation, digitalisation and sustainability.

The Iberdrola FP Awards position the company as one of the first major companies in Spain's electricity sector to launch a national programme of this kind, combining recognition of merit, financial prizes and preferential access to professional opportunities. It is an unprecedented initiative to attract and develop the country's best vocational training talent.

To this end, Iberdrola España invited more than 50 selected training centres that offer the official SEAS higher-level vocational training programme in Spain to take part.

Almost 200 young people were initially assessed through various selection tests.

Following this first phase, held in June, between 10 and 15 students per autonomous region were selected to take part in the in-person regional tests taking place throughout October.

The regional phase will be held throughout October in six autonomous regions included in the company's talent coverage map: the Madrid region (6 October); Extremadura (8 October); Castilla-La Mancha (14 October); the Valencia region (22 October); the Basque Country (27 October); and Castile and León (29 October).

During these in-person sessions, between 60 and 70 students will take part in work-based activities designed to assess their knowledge, skills and ability to deal with professional situations.

Final at the Iberdrola Campus

The national phase will take place on Wednesday 11 November at the Iberdrola Campus in San Agustín de Guadalix, where 20 finalists will take part in technical tests, workshops and activities designed to assess their professional skills and abilities.

During the event, the judging panel, made up of industry experts, will assess skills that are particularly relevant to working in the electricity sector, such as teamwork, commitment, motivation, responsibility and compliance with safety standards.

The winners of the final phase will receive substantial financial prizes and priority access to internships and Iberdrola España's talent pool.
