Inés Bergua, captain of the Spanish rhythmic gymnastics team
Iberdrola España has added gymnast Inés Bergua to its Iberdrola Ambassadors program, which consists of a selection of 35 athletes and role models promoting the visibility and leadership of women in sport. The company seeks to give maximum exposure to these athletes through media coverage and social media. Iberdrola continues to take effective actions to advance gender equality through sports participation.
At just 21 years old, Inés is the captain of the Spanish rhythmic gymnastics team and has won 15 medals in various international events since 2022 (six bronze and one silver at world championships, and two bronze, two silver, and four gold at European championships). Notably, at the 2025 European Championship in Tallinn, Inés achieved a triple gold medal, marking the best performance by Spain in the continental tournament since 1992, and positioning her as one of the two Spanish gymnasts with the most medals in this competition. She also has Olympic experience, having been part of the Spanish rhythmic gymnastics team at Paris 2024.
"I can hardly express how thrilled I am to be an Iberdrola ambassador. It is a huge honor to receive their trust. I’ve followed the athletes that Iberdrola España has supported since I was little, and now being one of them fills me with pride. Thank you to Iberdrola España for supporting rhythmic gymnastics when it wasn’t receiving the attention it deserved, and for believing in me personally from now on. Their support is a boost not only to my career but to the entire sport and to all the young girls and boys who dream of dedicating themselves to it. I’m convinced that we share values of responsibility, innovation, and simplicity, and that together we can enhance them both on and off the mats," said Bergua.
Inés now joins the Iberdrola Ambassadors family, which includes top athletes such as Carolina Marín, Teresa Perales, Alexia Putellas, Adiaratou Iglesias, Loida Zabala, María Pérez, Ana Peleteiro, Paula Leitón, and Paula Badosa, among other leading women in national sports.
Two decades promoting equality through sport
Since 2016, Iberdrola España has been the main promoter of women’s sports. The company currently supports 35 national federations and sponsors over 100 competitions. Through this commitment, over the past nine years, the number of female participants in these federations has increased by more than 80%, approaching 820,000.
Every year, the company awards the Iberdrola Supera Awards to recognize and highlight the best initiatives in Spain that promote gender equality through sports. These awards, with €50,000 for each winner, include categories such as Supera Base, Supera Competición, Supera Inclusión, Supera Social, Supera Difusión, and Supera Impulso Rural.
The company’s support also extends to Paralympic sports. Since its creation in 2005, Iberdrola has collaborated with the Spanish Paralympic Committee (CPE) through the ADOP (Paralympic Support Plan), aiming to provide athletes with the best conditions for their training and ensure their success in international competitions.
Additionally, Iberdrola España, through its Foundation and in collaboration with the CPE, offers scholarships for university and postgraduate education to athletes benefiting from the ADOP plan. This partnership aims to support the professional development of athletes for their future workforce integration once their athletic careers are over.
Finally, it is worth noting that the company is one of the collaborators of the Universo Mujer program, a comprehensive initiative aimed at the development and empowerment of women in society, with actions that contribute to social transformation through the values of women’s sport.
