"For me, it is a true honor and a great joy to become an ambassador for Iberdrola España. I share the values of effort and commitment that the company represents, and I am very proud to be part of this project, which brings together so many great athletes. Together, we will work to inspire new generations and promote a more equal future," said Val.
Sofía Val thus joins the family of Iberdrola Ambassadors, made up of sports leaders such as Alexia Putellas, Teresa Perales, Carolina Marín, María Pérez, Adiaratou Iglesias, Loida Zabala, Ana Peleteiro, Paula Leitón and Paula Badosa, among other women from the elite of national sport.
More than two decades promoting equality through women's sport
Since 2016 Iberdrola España has been the main promoter of women's sport. It currently supports 35 national federations through its sponsorship and lends its name to more than 100 competitions. With its commitment, over the last decade it has contributed to an increase of more than 80% in the number of female members of these federations, to almost 820,000.
Every year Iberdrola España presents the Iberdrola Supera Awards to recognise and raise the profile of the best projects launched in Spain to promote gender equality through sport. These awards, worth €50,000 for each winner, include the categories Supera Base, Supera Competition, Supera Inclusion, Supera Social, Supera Dissemination and Supera Rural Promotion.
The electricity company's support also extends to Paralympic sport. Since its creation in 2005 it has collaborated with the Spanish Paralympic Committee's (CPE) Plan to Support Paralympic Sport (ADOP) with the aim of providing our athletes with the best conditions to carry out their preparation and participate in all competitions with a guarantee of success.
Likewise Iberdrola España, through its Foundation and together with the CPE, offers Paralympic athletes who are beneficiaries of the ADOP Plan scholarships for university and postgraduate education. This collaboration agreement aims to facilitate the professional training of athletes with a view to their future integration into the labour market once their careers are over.
Finally it should be noted that the company is one of the partners in the Universo Mujer programme, a comprehensive initiative for the development and advancement of women in society that implements actions that contribute to social transformation through the values of women's sport.
