Iberdrola España has closed the application period and begun the judging process for the seventh edition of the Iberdrola Supera Awards, which recognise and support the best initiatives in Spain that promote gender equality through sport. All eligible entries will now be assessed by a jury of distinguished figures from the worlds of sport and the media.

The jury includes Teresa Perales, the most decorated Spanish Paralympian in Games history; Carolina Marín, Olympic champion and three-time world badminton champion; Alexia Putellas, FIFA Women's World Cup winner with Spain and two-time Ballon d'Or winner; Andrés Iniesta and Iker Casillas, members of Spain's 2010 FIFA World Cup-winning team; María Pérez, two-time world champion and Olympic gold medallist in race walking; Ana Peleteiro, European triple jump champion; Susana Rodríguez, Paralympic triathlon champion; Sandra Sánchez, Olympic karate champion; Ona Carbonell, one of Spain's most decorated artistic swimmers; Lydia Valentín, Olympic champion and multiple international medallist in weightlifting; and Jesús Carballo, two-time world gymnastics champion. They are joined by leading media figures Susanna Griso, Manu Carreño, Sonsoles Ónega, Paloma del Río and Pilar García de la Granja, who joins the panel for the first time this year.

The main innovation in this seventh edition is the introduction of two new categories:

Supera Salud y Bienestar, recognising initiatives that use sport to improve physical health, wellbeing and quality of life, including programmes focused on exercise, nutrition and mental health.
Supera Veteranas, recognising projects that encourage adult women to take part in sport by promoting continued participation in competition and performance in age-appropriate settings.

These join the six established categories:

Supera Base, promoting grassroots sport among girls up to the age of 16..
Supera Competición, promoting grassroots sport among girls up to the age of 16.
Supera Social, recognising initiatives that foster the inclusion of women at risk of social exclusion through sport.
Supera Inclusión, rewarding projects that promote the participation of people with disabilities in sport.
Supera Difusión, highlighting initiatives that raise the profile of women in sport and celebrate the achievements of female athletes.
Supera Impulso Rural, supporting projects that encourage girls and women in towns with fewer than 5,000 inhabitants to take part in sport.

Each category carries a grant of €50,000, bringing the total prize fund to €400,000. The winners will be announced at a gala hosted by Iberdrola España later this year. Since the awards were launched in 2020, the company has received more than 6,100 entries.

Iberdrola España, a pioneer in promoting equality through sport

Since 2016, Iberdrola España has been the driving force behind women's sport in Spain. Today, it supports 35 national sports federations through sponsorship agreements and lends its name to more than 100 competitions. Over the past decade, this commitment has helped increase female membership across these federations by more than 80 per cent, to almost 820,000.

The company's support also extends to Paralympic sport. Since 2005, it has partnered with the Spanish Paralympic Committee through the ADOP Programme, helping athletes prepare for and compete at the highest level.

In addition, Iberdrola España, through its Foundation and in collaboration with the Spanish Paralympic Committee, offers university and postgraduate scholarships to Paralympic athletes taking part in the ADOP Programme, helping them further their education and prepare for their careers after elite sport.

The company also supports the Universo Mujer programme, a nationwide initiative that promotes the role of women in society through the values of sport.
