Driven by Iberdrola España, the 18th Mucho x Vivir race brings together more than 7,000 people in Zamora

  • The race receives special support from Iberdrola España as main sponsor. The initiative forms part of the agreement between the two organisations to promote scientific research and raise public awareness of the disease.
  • The funds raised through this collaboration will go towards supporting cancer research, early detection and assistance for patients and their families.

Iberdrola España and the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) have joined forces once again this year, and a veritable sea of green and pink has swept through the central streets of Zamora during the 18th "Mucho x Vivir" Run 2026. More than 7,000 people took part in this charity event, which received special support from Iberdrola España as the main sponsor.

The funds raised through this collaboration, which forms part of the agreement between the two organisations, will support research to improve cancer diagnosis and treatment, as well as public awareness initiatives aimed at tackling the disease.

Taking advantage of this charity sporting event, Iberdrola España also highlighted one of the most innovative initiatives developed under the agreement: Juntos contra el cáncer (Together against cancer). Through this project, Iberdrola España gives its customers the opportunity to support the association by pledging to double the amount they donate each month through their bills. A new way to participate has now been added through the Mi Iberdrola loyalty programme, which will allow customers to donate their accumulated balance to the Spanish Association Against Cancer, helping to drive research and improve the diagnosis and treatment of the disease.

“In such a special year for the Iberdrola Group, as we celebrate 125 years of history linked to Castile and León and areas such as Zamora, we want to continue demonstrating that our commitment goes beyond energy. Supporting initiatives such as the Mucho x Vivir Race means helping to improve people’s lives, promote research and stand alongside those who need it most. It is gratifying to see, once again, the extraordinary response from the people of Zamora in support of this cause,” said Miguel Calvo, Iberdrola España’s regional representative in Castile and León.

Iberdrola España: creating value for society in Zamora

Iberdrola España aims to maintain its close ties with the province of Zamora and all stakeholders and to this end is committed to retaining and attracting young talent. To achieve this, it is returning to its roots while looking to the future, embracing talent and innovation. The facilities that for decades have housed Iberdrola España's Hydraulics Laboratory – a global benchmark in the field of engineering, situated next to the Ricobayo dam – have been transformed into a pioneering project: an innovation and training centre through which 1,000 future professionals from all corners of Spain pass each year.

Looking to the future Iberdrola España will continue to make significant investment in this region to keep offering its nearly 130,000 customers in Zamora an ever-improving quality of service.

The company operates 17 facilities in the province, with a total installed capacity of 976 MW. These comprise four wind farms and 13 hydropower plants, providing clean, flexible energy while creating jobs and promoting professional training in a growing sector that offers employment opportunities for young people.

In addition, working with the Rei Afonso Henriques Foundation, the company provides training for young people at schools across Zamora on the risks of climate change, helping to prepare future generations for the energy and environmental challenges ahead.

More than a century ago, the power of the River Duero paved the way. Today, renewable energy, innovation and talent are shaping the future. Everything points to the next chapters of this story continuing to be written with the same commitment to progress that drove those first projects alongside the waters flowing through Zamora.

And 125 years on, energy remains much more than electricity: it is a tool for transforming regions, creating opportunities and building the future. Iberdrola España continues to uphold this commitment in Zamora through investment, employment, training and the promotion of an increasingly sustainable, competitive energy model that remains closely connected to people and the region.
