The 15th Valladolid Walk Against Cancer will take place on Sunday 25 October at 10:30am, with Iberdrola España as its main sponsor. The event was officially presented at Valladolid City Council on Monday. Given the walk’s longstanding popularity, it is expected to once again be the largest cancer awareness walk in Spain, surpassing last year’s participation of nearly 54,000 people.

The presentation was attended by the city’s mayor, Jesús Julio Carnero; the president of the Association in Valladolid, Artemio Domínguez; researcher Beatriz Gutiérrez, recipient of the 2026 AECC predoctoral grant; and Iberdrola’s Commercial Director in Castile and León, Tomás Nistal.

All funds raised through registration for the 15th Valladolid Walk will go towards research supported by the seven AECC Valladolid predoctoral grants. These include the latest grants awarded to Beatriz Gutiérrez, for her study Immuno-Functional Analysis of Immune-Mediated Colitis in Cancer Patients: Towards Predictive Biomarkers and Personalised Therapeutic Strategies, and Damián Pena, who is developing the project Deciphering the Role of RNA Modifications in Glioblastoma Multiforme.

This year, three marquees will be set up in Plaza de Zorrilla, next to the VALLADOLID letters. One will focus on volunteering for the Association, another on health prevention and promotion, and the third on cancer research being carried out in Valladolid. Researchers holding predoctoral grants from the Spanish Association Against Cancer will be on hand to provide information about their work.

The Association in Valladolid has committed €1 million to cancer research in 2026, covering research into a range of different types of cancer. This funding will support seven predoctoral grants and two research grants, awarded to Dr Nuria Benavent and Dr José Manuel Muñoz Félix.

Iberdrola España is once again the walk’s main sponsor

The Valladolid Walk Against Cancer is receiving the special support of Iberdrola España as its main partner for the 11th consecutive year. This partnership forms part of an agreement between the two organisations to support research aimed at improving cancer diagnosis and treatment, as well as initiatives to raise public awareness in the fight against the disease.

Iberdrola España and the Spanish Association Against Cancer have a longstanding partnership, which was strengthened in 2015 with the signing of a collaboration agreement focused on cancer research. The company’s continued commitment, together with the support of its customers, has made Iberdrola the Association’s leading private-sector partner.

One of the most innovative initiatives developed under this agreement is Together Against Cancer, through which Iberdrola España gives its customers the opportunity to support the Association by matching the amount they donate each month through their energy bill. Customers can now also get involved through the Mi Iberdrola loyalty programme, which allows them to donate their accumulated balance to the Spanish Association Against Cancer, helping to support further research and progress towards better diagnosis and treatment of the disease.

Organisation of this year’s event

Registration will be open from 13 to 24 October at various locations across the city — the sports department at El Corte Inglés, Hipercor in Arroyo de la Encomienda and 14 Montero Calvo Street. Race numbers will be issued upon registration.

The first 47,000 people to register will receive a T-shirt featuring a commemorative design for the 15th edition. Quantities are limited and exchanges are not permitted. All other participants will receive a different gift, such as a backpack, neck buff or dog bandana.

The walk will start at the sports grounds on Paseo del Campo Grande. Participants can complete the 5-kilometre route either by running or walking, with runners positioned at the front. The finish line will be at the end of the bus lane on the Recoletos pavement.

Participants should gather from the starting line towards Plaza de Zorrilla and along Paseo del Príncipe in Campo Grande.

Anyone who would like to support the event but is unable to attend can make a donation through Dorsal 0 to the following Unicaja bank account: IBAN ES37 2103 4300 7100 3011 2564.
