Valladolid hosts the 7th Iberdrola Supera Awards, with €400,000 to support projects that transform society

Iberdrola España today presented at an event held in Valladolid the seventh edition of the Iberdrola Supera Awards, through which the company recognizes and promotes the best projects launched in Spain to promote gender equality through sports.

The event was attended by Jesús Julio Carnero, the city's mayor; Laura Gil, Head of Sponsorship at Iberdrola España; and Miguel Calvo, the company's institutional representative in Castile and León. Also speaking at the presentation were Marta Fernández, Paralympic swimmer and Iberdrola ambassador; Lydia Valentín, Olympic medalist and member of the awards' honorary jury; and Elías Rubio, teacher and coordinator of the Convi-Bol project at CEIP Lope de Vega in León, which received the Iberdrola Supera Social Award at the last edition.

During her remarks Laura Gil highlighted the track record of the Iberdrola Supera Awards since their inception, emphasizing their impact on both the number of nominations and the emotional impact of the recognized projects, "stories that turn dreams into reality and have a direct impact on people". She also highlighted the new features of this seventh edition, with the addition of two new categories — Supera Health and Well-being and Supera Veterans — to the six existing ones, and noted that the deadline for submitting nominations has been extended to 21 June.

For her part Marta Fernández shared what it means to her to be part of the Iberdrola Ambassadors program, highlighting the company's commitment to promoting women's sports and its ability to create role models and inspiration. In the same vein Lydia Valentín highlighted the role of the awards as a catalyst for change, emphasizing the responsibility of the honorary jury in recognizing projects "tan necesarios y con un impacto tan humano" which contribute to transforming society through sports.

Elías Rubio, a teacher and coordinator of the Convi-Bol project at CEIP Lope de Vega in León also spoke, explaining the benefits of the recognition received in the previous edition, which helped consolidate and raise the profile of an inclusive educational initiative that uses sports as a tool for equality. For his part, Miguel Calvo reaffirmed Iberdrola España's commitment to equality and the economic and social development of Castile and León, highlighting the company's support for women's sports and its contribution to the business community and employment in the region.

The event concluded with remarks by the mayor of Valladolid, Jesús Julio Carnero, who highlighted the city's pride in hosting the presentation of awards that promote equality through sports and encouraged the people of Valladolid and all citizens of Castile and León to submit their nominations for this new edition.

More categories, more momentum: this is how the Iberdrola Supera Awards are growing

The 7th edition of the Iberdrola Supera Awards takes a new step forward with the addition of two new categories — Supera Health and Well-being and Supera Veterans — which join the already established Supera Grassroots, Supera Competition, Supera Social, Supera Inclusion, Supera Outreach and Supera Rural Development. This growth expands the scope of awards that recognize initiatives capable of transforming society through sports, from health and inclusion to rural development and the promotion of women's talent. This renewed momentum, in the year that the Iberdrola Group — of which Iberdrola España is a part — celebrates 125 years of bringing light to Spain, reaffirms its historic commitment to progress, equal opportunity and a positive impact on society.

An honorary jury composed of prominent figures from the worlds of sports and the media including Carolina Marín, Teresa Perales, Iker Casillas, Sandra Sánchez, Lydia Valrentín, Ona Carbonell, Susanna Griso and Alexia Putellas will evaluate the submitted projects. Each category will be awarded €50,000 euros, bringing the total prize pool to €400,000 euros.

In its sixth edition the Iberdrola Supera Awards matched the previous record for nominations with 1,300 projects submitted. In total since its creation in 2020 the initiative has received more than 5,300 nominations, reflecting the growing interest and impact of awards that give visibility to initiatives with a strong social and transformative component.

Iberdrola España, a pioneer in promoting equality through sports

Since 2016 Iberdrola España has been the leading promoter of women's sports in Spain. Currently through its sponsorship it 35 national federations and lends its name to more than 100 competitions. Through its commitment over the past decade it has helped increase the number of female members in these federations by more than 80%, reaching nearly 820,000.

The utility company's support also extends to Paralympic sports. Since its creation in 2005 it has collaborated with the Spanish Paralympic Committee's (CPE) Support Plan for Paralympic Sports (ADOP) with the aim of providing our athletes with the best conditions for their preparation and participation in top-level competitions.

In addition Iberdrola España, through its Foundation in Spain and in collaboration with the Spanish Paralympic Committee, awards undergraduate and graduate scholarships to Paralympic athletes who are beneficiaries of the ADOP Plan, thereby facilitating their professional training and future integration into the workforce after they retire from sports.

The company is also one of the partners of the Universo Mujer program, a comprehensive initiative focused on the development and advancement of women in society through the values of sport.
