The Third Vice President and Regional Minister of the Environment, Infrastructure, Territory and Recovery, Vicente Martínez Mus, visited the redesign work that Iberdrola España is carrying out at the Llanos de Quart transformer substation, located in Quart de Poblet, which was affected by the cold drop.

Guillermo Raga, director of i-DE — Iberdrola España’s distribution company in the Eastern Region — welcomed Martínez Mus along with Ignacio García Bosch, head of the il·lumina plan, and Ibán Molina, the company’s institutional representative in the Valencia region. Also in attendance were Raúl Mérida, Commissioner for Recovery; Sabina Goreti, Regional Secretary for the Environment and Territory; and Francisco Javier Sendra, Regional Secretary for Infrastructure and Transportation.

During the tour attendees were able to see the transformation that Iberdrola España is carrying out at the Llanos de Quart substation, where the company has installed world-leading equipment and raised the entire platform by more than 1.5 meters to accommodate the new infrastructure, which now features a compact, more efficient and modern design.

As part of the substation redesign the company has installed two 66 kilovolt Integrated High-Voltage Assemblies (CIAT) — the first of their kind installed by the company worldwide. This will enable a much more compact infrastructure with greater capacity for future expansions by freeing up space on the site through the use of this technology.

The project that i-DE is carrying out at the Llanos de Quart substation involves an investment exceeding €7 million and incorporates the most advanced standards in digitalization and resilience, which will benefit users of the industrial park and nearby communities.

In addition the company has installed two new transformers and is reconfiguring the 66 kilovolts system, which will help improve the reliability of the power supply.

Il·lumina Plan

The Llanos de Quart substation transformation project is part of the Il·lumina Plan, through which Iberdrola España is allocating an investment of €100 million to redesign the power grid affected by the cold drop and create the grid of the future by incorporating new measures for resilience and digitalization.

To carry this out the company has formed a dedicated team of 35 professionals working exclusively on this project, which also requires the collaboration of approximately 1,000 workers from contractor firms, primarily from the local area. Collectively these efforts will benefit more than 650,000 customers in the region.

In addition Iberdrola España is carrying out most of the work without interrupting the power supply to customers, implementing special solutions such as the installation of generators to minimize disruption. It is also improving its notification systems to provide more effective information about scheduled outages.
