Winners from Castile and León at the 2026 i-DEas Awards

Castile and León has emerged as one of the standout regions in the latest edition of the Iberdrola España i-DEas Awards, accounting for more than half of the recognised professionals, all of whom are based in the region. The awards were presented at the company’s Global Smart Grids Innovation Hub in Bilbao as part of a programme that showcases the internal talent and innovative capacity of distribution teams across Spain, reinforcing the region’s key role in the development of the electricity grid of the future.

Adrián Carbajo, Jaime Casado, David La Orden, Francisco Rodríguez and Diego Marcos de Prado have been recognised for their proposals aimed at strengthening grid resilience, improving quality of supply, and advancing digitalisation and data-driven solutions within the business. Their initiatives are among the more than 120 submitted through the four campaigns launched in 2025 under the i-DEas programme, which supports projects from initial concept through to implementation, with roll-outs planned through to 2026.

Award winners from other regions complete this recognition, which highlights the contribution of all distribution teams to the development of new technical solutions, particularly in areas such as preparing infrastructure for extreme weather events, advancing industrial electrification and improving incident management.

Following the ceremony, award recipients toured the laboratories of the Global Smart Grids Innovation Hub, an internationally recognised centre that has been driving R&D&I projects in smart grids since 2021, with cumulative investment of €210 million and the participation of more than 120 partner organisations. The Hub develops solutions based on artificial intelligence, advanced sensor technologies, digital twins and automation—key capabilities for building a network ready to accommodate growing demand and accelerate the electrification of the economy.

With this latest edition of the i-DEas Awards, Iberdrola España once again underscores the decisive role of its distribution teams and, in particular, the leadership demonstrated by professionals in Castile and León, a region where innovation in smart grids is proving essential to ensuring a more secure, efficient and sustainable electricity supply.
