Before and after of the entrances to the City of Burgos

The entrance to Burgos via Francisco Salinas Street now presents a renewed look thanks to the efforts of i-DE, Iberdrola España’s distributor, which removed old overhead electrical installations to improve urban aesthetics, safety, and supply quality.

With an investment of €62,000, an outdoor transformation center was dismantled, along with two low-voltage lines and two 137-meter stretches of medium-voltage overhead lines that passed through iconic areas such as Castillo Park, near the Fuente Bermeja Hospital. Additionally, the low-voltage network was reconfigured to ensure a reliable supply to 83 customers, adjusting their contracts to standardized voltage.

This intervention reduces visual impact at one of the city's main entrances, strengthens road safety, and modernizes the electrical grid, ensuring a more reliable and efficient service.

The initiative aligns with i-DE’s commitment to a secure and sustainable supply and is part of a broader plan that includes additional improvements around the Castillo de Burgos— a Cultural Heritage site and key point on the Camino de Santiago— to continue advancing toward a more environmentally friendly and historically respectful electrical network.

More than 246 substations in Castilla y León

In Castilla y León, i-DE manages more than 50,000 km of electrical lines, operates 15,697 service transformation centers, and has 246 substations.

In recent years, the company has undertaken an ambitious digitalization plan for its electrical networks, turning more than 1.5 million meters in the region and their supporting infrastructure into smart meters, incorporating telemanagement, monitoring, and automation capabilities. The digitalization of the electrical distribution network will provide more data to implement additional energy efficiency and sustainability measures, aligned with an ambitious and urgent climate action commitment.

Investment and development of electrical grids, the backbone of the energy transition, are tools to attract industry and generate employment.
