Iberdrola España renovates the Silla substation to strengthen the supply in the area affected by the cold drop
- This infrastructure distributes electricity to more than 22,000 customers in Silla, Beniparrell, Alcàsser, and Picassent
- This action is part of the il·lumina plan, through which the company is investing €100 million to redesign and rebuild the electricity distribution network

Renovation works at the Silla substation (Valencia)
Iberdrola España, through its distribution company i-DE, has repleaced a high-voltage electrical transformer at the Silla substation to reinforce electricity supply in the area affected by the cold drop.
The installation of the transformer, which weighs more than 75 tonnes, required hiring of special transport and a large crane from the Valencian companies Bonet and Rigar, in line with Iberdrola España's commitment to use local companies to support the work it is carrying out in the area.
This transformer station distributes electricity to more than 22,000 supply points in the towns of Silla, Beniparrell, Alcàsser and Picassent and the La Coma industrial estate over 15 medium-voltage lines 67 kilometres long above ground and 85 kilometres long underground, supplying power to both homes and large industrial consumers in the area.
The renovation of this infrastructure will improve the quality of service in these municipalities, which were affected by the cold drop, and strengthen the connection with the El Saler, Cullera, Perelló and Almussafes, which together supply power to more than 82,000 supply points, meaning that the work will benefit more than 100,000 customers.
According to Ignacio García Bosch, head of Iberdrola España's il·lumina plan, ‘the project is progressing at a good pace with all kinds of work, such as this large-scale replacement of the transformer at the Silla substation, as well as other work carried out in other areas affected by the cold drop, where we have already made progress to more than 200 transformer stations renovated and cleaned and the same number of medium-voltage line supports built’.
To minimise disruption in the municipalities where work is already underway, i-DE has improved its scheduled outage notifications and is implementing special measures such as installing generators and carrying out work at night.
Il·lumina plan to create the grid of the future
Iberdrola España is going to invest €100M to develop the il·lumina plan to redesign the electricity grid that was affected by the cold drop and incorporate resilience measures and the latest digitalisation standards that will benefit more than 650,000 customers in the area.
The company has put together a team of 35 people who are working exclusively on the project, which requires the participation of approximately 1,000 operators, most of whom will be locally based.
The creation of a department dedicated exclusively to this plan is allowing i-DE to continue developing the rest of its investments in the Valencian Community as normal.
