Iberdrola España has held the regional stage of the first edition of the ‘Iberdrola Vocational Training Awards: Investing in the Electric Future’ in Valencia. The annual programme aims to identify, recognise and attract the best higher-level vocational training students specialising in electricity and electricity networks.
Students from Escuelas Profesionales de Artesanos, Escuelas San José Instituto Politécnico and Instituto Inter, all in Valencia, as well as Centro Integrado de Formación Profesional de Cheste and IES Rascanya, took part in the event held today at the company’s offices.
Representing the province of Castellón were students from the IES Miralcamp (Vila-real) and IES Llombai in Borriana, while Alicante was represented by students from the Canastell Integrated Vocational Training Centre in San Vicente del Raspeig.
The initiative is aimed at second-year students on the official Higher Technician qualification in Electrotechnical and Automated Systems (SEAS). It aims to bring the company closer to vocational training centres, promote interest in technical careers and help qualified young people enter a strategic sector undergoing significant transformation, while also recognising the valuable work of training centres and their teachers.
Through this programme, Iberdrola España is aiming to contribute to generational renewal and attract specialised technical talent while reinforcing values that are essential to the company such as safety, professional excellence, innovation, digitalisation and sustainability.
The Iberdrola Vocational Training Awards position the company as one of the first major firms in Spain's electricity sector to launch a national programme of this kind, combining recognition of merit, cash prizes and preferential access to career opportunities. This represents an unprecedented commitment to attracting and developing the best vocational training talent in the country.
To this end, Iberdrola España has invited more than 50 selected training centres across Spain that offer the official Higher Level qualification in SEAS to take part. Around 200 young people have undergone an initial assessment through various selection tests.
Following this first phase, which took place in June, the initiative selected between 10 and 15 students per region to take part in the regional face-to-face tests being held throughout October.
The regional phase is being centralised in October across six regions included in the company's talent coverage map: the regions of Valencia, Madrid, Castile and León, Castile-La Mancha, Basque Country and Extremadura.
During these in-person sessions, between 60 and 70 students will take part in group exercises designed to assess their knowledge, skills and ability to cope in professional situations.
Final at the Iberdrola Campus
The national phase will take place from 11 to 17 November at the Iberdrola Campus in San Agustín de Guadalix, where 20 finalists will undertake technical tests, workshops and group exercises aimed at assessing their professional competencies and skills.
During the event, the judging panel – comprising leading figures from the sector – will assess skills that are particularly relevant to working in the electricity sector, such as teamwork, commitment, motivation, responsibility and adherence to safety standards. The winners of this final stage will receive substantial cash prizes and priority access to work placements and Iberdrola España's talent pool.
