Iberdrola España organises electrical safety training session for the Civil Guard in Soria

  • i-DE wants stakeholders to identify a risk that is invisible to the untrained eye and to know how to act safely near electrical installations
Civil Guard representatives and attendees take part in a training session on electricity distribution facilities in Soria, Spain.

Iberdrola España is making progress in coordination with the State security forces and in joint preparedness for emergency situations.

The Spanish Government’s Subdelegate in Soria, Miguel Latorre; the Lieutenant Colonel and Head of the Civil Guard Command in Soria, Sergio Peñarroya; and Roberto Rodriguez, Head of i-DE’s Distribution Network business in Soria and Burgos, representing Iberdrola España, officially opened a technical training session held at the Civil Guard Command headquarters in the provincial capital.

The initiative forms part of the collaboration between i-DE and the Civil Guard to strengthen preparedness and coordination in response to potential emergencies, incidents or thefts that may occur at electrical installations or in their vicinity.

Delivered by professionals from i-DE’s technical units and Prevention department, the session provided an opportunity to examine the risks associated with this type of intervention and explain the key safety measures officers must adopt to work in a coordinated manner and reduce their exposure to electrical hazards.

The training, attended by more than 30 officers, covered topics including the identification and configuration of electrical installations, basic electrical concepts, the effects of electric current on the human body and the preventive measures required when carrying out any activity at or near these facilities.

The session was jointly organised by Iberdrola España’s Security and Resilience department, i-DE and the Government Subdelegation. It was delivered by José Manuel Calvo, Head of the Soria-Aranda Sector, and Roberto Martín, i-DE Prevention Technician, with the support of Laureano Arias, Head of the Intelligence and Liaison Office. The session concluded with a visit to the Guardia Civil-Soria transformer substation, where participants were able to put their newly acquired knowledge into practice in a real-life setting.

Through initiatives of this kind, Iberdrola España is strengthening coordination with Spain’s State Security Forces and Bodies and enhancing joint preparedness for emergency situations. These activities help officers become more familiar with electrical installations and identify a hazard that is not always apparent to non-specialists.

Collaboration, training and the exchange of knowledge are essential to improving response capabilities, protecting people and ensuring safe and effective action in the event of any incident involving electrical infrastructure.
