Since opening to the public on 21 September, the initiative has aroused great interest among people of all ages.

More than 20,000 people have visited An Electrifying Journey: an Iberdrola immersive experience over the past month. This major exhibition on technology and the future of electricity was organised by Iberdrola Group, of which Iberdrola España is part, to mark its 125th anniversary. The exhibition closes today at the Crystal Gallery of Cibeles Palace in Madrid, having sold out all available time slots and increased the number of tickets initially planned to meet the high demand.

Since opening to the public on 21 September, the initiative has attracted great interest among people of all ages. Through an educational, immersive and interactive approach, visitors have been able to explore the main advances that have marked the history of electricity and discover how electrical innovation is transforming cities, mobility and industry.

The exhibition has been particularly well received by the education community. Nearly 4,000 students from 40 schools have taken part in the school visits and workshops, which were designed to provide a practical introduction to the scientific fundamentals and applications of electricity, spark curiosity about science and technology and encourage new vocations among young people.

During these activities, students carried out experiments involving static electricity, electrical circuits, charge generation and wireless energy transmission. The exhibition also featured demonstrations with a Tesla coil, audiovisual content, original pieces of historical and technological value, and an immersive experience with mixed reality headsets.

The exhibition begins a new stage

Following its success in Madrid, An Electrifying Journey is now starting a new stage with a touring programme of various schools. In this way, Iberdrola Group will extend the educational reach of the initiative and enable more students to discover the world of electricity, innovation and technology.

Once this tour is over, the exhibition will be permanently installed at the Iberdrola Training and Innovation Campus in San Agustín del Guadalix, where it will continue to contribute to scientific and technological outreach and to the education of new generations.

This new tour continues one of the exhibition’s central aims: to share the knowledge accumulated over 125 years of the evolution of the electricity system and to show the leading role that electricity will play in building a more secure, competitive and sustainable energy model. The exhibition tells this story through Iberdrola Group’s own history, from the first power plants to the development of renewable energy, smart grids and energy storage.

One of the major milestones of the 125th anniversary

The exhibition was opened on 21 September by His Majesty King Felipe VI, accompanied by the Executive Chairman of Iberdrola Group, Ignacio Galán, and the Mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida. During the opening visit, King Felipe VI learned about the innovations that have transformed the electricity system and some of the technological advances that will drive electrification over the coming decades.

An Electrifying Journey is part of 125 Light Years, the programme with which Iberdrola Group is celebrating its 125-year history in 2026. Throughout the year, the company is staging concerts, social activities, exhibitions and cultural events to share with society its legacy and its contribution to economic, industrial and social progress.
