Iberdrola España has welcomed Ana Alonso to its Iberdrola Ambassadors programme, a group of 35 athletes and role models who promote the visibility and leadership of women in sport and whom the company actively showcases across media and social platforms. With the addition of the skier, the company further strengthens its long-standing commitment to equality through sport—a commitment it first undertook more than two decades ago.

Ana began her sporting career in cross-country skiing before transitioning to ski mountaineering, a discipline in which she has become a global benchmark. She started competing internationally in 2016 and has shown steady progression on the world circuit, achieving outstanding results, including a silver medal at the 2025 World Championships and several podium finishes at European Championships. These achievements positioned her among Spain’s strongest medal prospects for the Olympic debut of the discipline.

Her definitive breakthrough came at the Milan–Cortina d’Ampezzo 2026 Winter Olympic Games, where she delivered a historic performance, winning two bronze medals in the sprint and mixed relay events—the latter alongside Oriol Cardona. Her achievement was all the more remarkable given the serious injury she suffered just months before the Games, making her participation a clear example of resilience and competitive determination. She also served as flag bearer for the Spanish delegation at the closing ceremony, bringing to a close an Olympic campaign that confirmed her status as one of the leading figures in Spanish winter sport.

I am very proud that initiatives like this help give us greater visibility and allow us to keep growing,” said Alonso.

Ana Alonso thus joins the Iberdrola Ambassadors family, which includes leading figures such as Alexia Putellas, Teresa Perales, Carolina Marín, María Pérez, Adiaratou Iglesias, Loida Zabala, Ana Peleteiro, Paula Leitón, Nicole Wiggins and Paula Badosa, among other elite Spanish athletes.

More than two decades promoting equality through women’s sport

Since 2016, Iberdrola España has been the main driving force behind women’s sport. It currently sponsors 35 national federations and lends its name to more than 100 competitions. Over the past decade, its commitment has helped increase female participation in these federations by more than 80%, to nearly 820,000 members.

Each year, Iberdrola España presents the Iberdrola Supera Awards to recognise and raise the profile of the best projects in Spain promoting gender equality through sport. Each award is endowed with €50,000 and is presented across six categories: Supera Base, Supera Competición, Supera Inclusión, Supera Social, Supera Difusión and Supera Impulso Rural.

The company’s support also extends to Paralympic sport. Since 2005, it has collaborated with the Spanish Paralympic Committee (CPE) through the ADOP (Support Plan for Paralympic Sport), with the aim of providing athletes with the best possible conditions for training and competition.

In addition, Iberdrola España, through Fundación Iberdrola España and in partnership with the CPE, offers university and postgraduate scholarships to Paralympic athletes benefiting from the ADOP programme. This initiative aims to support athletes’ professional development and facilitate their integration into the labour market once their sporting careers come to an end.

Finally, it is worth noting that the company is one of the organisations collaborating with the Universo Mujer programme, a comprehensive initiative aimed at advancing women’s role in society by promoting actions that drive social transformation through the values of women’s sport.
