These partnerships represent an opportunity to develop a value chain in the Spanish Autonomous Community. In Extremadura Iberdrola España works with: Faramax, based in Malpartida de Plasencia, which is responsible for the electrical transformers; Imedexa, based in Casar de Cáceres, which manufactures the high-voltage line towers; Galvexa, from Casatejada, which is responsible for galvanising the structure the solar panels are mounted on; Exver and ARJ, from Cáceres, work on clearing and maintaining vegetation; and the EcoÁnime Foundation, from Don Benito, which is responsible for environmental control and monitoring at the photovoltaic plants.
Iberdrola España generated an estimated economic impact of more than €530M in Extremadura in 2024 with its purchases from suppliers and other items such as salaries and taxes paid. The energy company has consolidated its position as one of the largest contributors to the public coffers, with €160M in 2024, 12% more than in the previous year. In the region, there are more than 270 people working for Iberdrola España.
Strong growth for Iberdrola España in Extremadura
Extremadura has become one of Iberdrola España's growth regions in the country with almost 5,000 MW of renewable energy currently installed in both Cáceres and Badajoz, making the energy company the leader in the region.
Hydroelectric facilities total 2,000 MW and work is underway to increase their flexibility and energy storage capacity, which is key given that hydroelectric power plants provide stability, flexibility and record-time responsiveness.
A total of 2,842 MW of renewable energy is also generated at its 14 photovoltaic plants.
Community support in Extremadura
Iberdrola España is also closely involved in the social and cultural activities of the region. In fact, the Iberdrola España Foundation, in collaboration with the Spanish Ministry of Defence, has reforested 49.50 hectares at the General Menacho Base in Badajoz with 22,500 trees. The total investment exceeded €100,000, including planting and maintenance over a two-year period, which includes irrigation, clearing and the replacement of dead trees, when necessary. This plantation will absorb 4,339 tonnes of CO₂ over a 50-year period.
The foundation has also worked with FAD Youth to develop pre-job skills in young people in basic vocational training in electricity and with FEAFES to promote the educational inclusion of young people who are socially excluded and at risk.
