Visit to the refurbishment works at the Agricultural Foremen School in Catarroja

Iberdrola España, through its foundation in Spain and the Provincial Council of Valencia, met at the School of Agricultural Foremen in Catarroja, which was affected by the cold drop, together with Deka Ingeniería y Arquitectura, which is responsible for the comprehensive refurbishment and expansion of the facilities to modernise, adapt and ensure the operational continuity of a strategic centre for agricultural and environmental training in the Albufera Natural Park.

The president of the Provincial Council of Valencia, Vicente Mompó, and the director of the Iberdrola España Foundation, Ramón Castresana, were able to see the progress of the project, which will require an investment of €4 million, €3 million of which Iberdrola España is covering through its foundation and the provincial entity is managing the remaining €1 million.

Also present at the visit were the institutional representative of Iberdrola España in the Valencia region, Ibán Molina, as well as the Councillor for Urban Planning of Catarroja, Martí Raga, the municipal architect Ángel Abad and technicians from the Provincial Council itself, who checked on the progress made following the demolition of the annex buildings, greenhouses and interior walls of the main building.

For the president of the provincial authority, this project "no se limita a recuperar unas instalaciones dañadas; es, sobre todo, una inversión en conocimiento, talento y sostenibilidad para nuestro sector primario. The creation of modern classrooms, specialised laboratories, greenhouses and new practical spaces will improve the training of future agricultural professionals so that they can meet the needs of Valencian agriculture, which demands more personnel, but above all, qualified personnel who are committed to the countryside."

Vicente Mompó added that the refurbishment of this school, "the result of collaboration with the Iberdrola Spain Foundation, to whom I would like to reiterate my deep gratitude, is a clear example of how cooperation between public institutions and private companies can transform adversity into an opportunity to emerge stronger, better prepared and with a vision for the future. It is a model that the government should be more committed to".

For his part the director of the Iberdrola España Foundation emphasised that for the company "this is one of the main milestones in the celebration of its 125th anniversary this year and is a sign of the Foundation's commitment to a facility that was affected by the cold drop. The refurbishment project will enable this centre, which promotes vocational training in the agricultural sector and is located in an area of great environmental value, to have more modern and sustainable facilities".

Ramón Castresana highlighted the importance of collaboration between private companies and public entities and thanked the Provincial Council for "the opportunity to participate in this exciting project, in which by working together we will be able to restore and improve the facilities of the Catarroja School of Agricultural Foremen".

Conservation and modernisation project for the Catarroja School of Agricultural Foremen

The work being carried out consists of a series of measures ranging from the architectural restoration of the School of Foremen to the complete modernisation of the facilities with a new main building, which will have two floors with new classrooms and spaces for teachers.

Plans include installing an auditorium with capacity for 250 people, creating an environmental classroom, a specialised laboratory and an irrigation practice room as well as building a new greenhouse for cultivation and horticultural experimentation.

In total more than 4,600 square meters of outdoor space will be developed and new accesses will be provided to facilitate the arrival of students. To make the site more sustainable it will be equipped with a 30-kilowatt self-consumption photovoltaic installation, which will significantly reduce electricity consumption and move towards a model of self-sufficiency.

More than €12 million invested in social initiatives

Iberdrola España, through the Social Programme of the Iberdrola España Foundation, has allocated more than €12 million to social initiatives in the country and helped a total of 414,546 people. Since the launch of this Plan in 2010 the company has promoted more than 500 projects in collaboration with more than a hundred social entities, contributing to the fight against child poverty, school support and the social integration of children, young people and women in vulnerable situations. The Social Programme has enabled the creation of 1,830 jobs and the participation of 8,538 volunteers.

The Iberdrola España Foundation also focuses its activities on its scholarship programme in the fields of energy, biodiversity and the environment, supporting research into issues related to energy and climate change as well as in the cultural sphere, focusing on the restoration and maintenance of the cultural and artistic riches of the Iberian Peninsula's heritage.
