Secrets of the Duero Trail in Aldeávila de la Ribera
Aldeadávila de la Ribera once again became the epicentre of mountain trail running on Saturday with the seventh edition of Secretos del Duero, an event that brought together nearly 500 participants eager to discover the beauty and harshness of the Duero Canyon. Once again Iberdrola España supported the event, contributing its green energy and reaffirming its commitment to the sustainable development of the rural environment.
The runners faced four demanding challenges designed along the ancient paths used by shepherds and woodcutters to descend from the Castilian plateau to the riverbed. This unique landscape, formed by granite cliffs and vertical walls, makes Arribes a spectacular natural setting where, as the organisers point out, "the mountains are born downwards".
In addition to its sporting dimension, Secretos del Duero seeks to promote the natural and cultural heritage of the area, encouraging sustainable tourism that strengthens the local economy and helps to stabilise the population.
Miguel Calvo
Iberdrola España's representative in Castile and León
For Iberdrola España, whose ties to Salamanca date back 125 years, the Saltos del Duero symbolise its own origins: this is where the hydroelectric drive that shaped the company and a pioneering energy model in Spain was born. Furthermore this support is part of a firm commitment to strengthening life in rural areas. "Villages have found renewable energy to be one of the solutions for boosting growth and employment", said Miguel Calvo, Iberdrola España's representative in Castile and León. "We increasingly need sustainable energy sources, and the rural world is an indispensable ally in building a better future".
For his part the technical director of the race, David Guarde, highlighted the collective effort behind the event: "with each edition we strive to make Aldeadávila de la Ribera a national benchmark in mountain racing. The nearly 100 volunteers who make up the Secretos del Duero family give their all to make this a unique experience."
Green energy to power the future of villages in Salamanca
Iberdrola España has 10 facilities in the province of Salamanca with a combined capacity of 2,726 MW, which generate clean energy and promote job creation and the training of new professionals in a growing sector. The Aldeadávila hydroelectric power station alone, which together with its dam is once again the star of the event, produces enough electricity to supply more than 250,000 homes, avoiding the annual emission of 1.3 million tonnes of CO₂.
The company will continue to strengthen its investment in the province to offer its 245,000 customers in Salamanca an increasingly efficient, modern and sustainable service.
