Iberdrola España is promoting 21 solar regions in Badajoz that will supply green energy to 3,279 households

Badajoz now has 21 solar regions installed in the city by Iberdrola España, enabling 3,279 households to benefit from lower electricity bills and access renewable self-consumption without needing their own installation or making any investment.
In total, these 21 communities comprise more than 3,975 solar panels with a combined total capacity of 1.83 MWp and an annual generation of 2.6 GWh, which will prevent the emission of more than 533 tonnes of CO₂ into the atmosphere.
These 21 solar regions are located on the roofs of various sites across the city, ranging from residents' associations to industrial units, workshops, beauty salons and non-governmental organisations.
Under this self-consumption scheme any customer within a five-kilometre radius of the installation can sign up and use local, green energy without needing to have solar panels installed at their own home and without any investment, as the company takes care of everything.
What is a solar region and how does it work?
Iberdrola España's solar regions are based on collective self-consumption and involve two main parties: on the one hand, there is the roof owner, who provides their unused space to install solar panels and generate 100% renewable energy, helping them to save on their electricity bill.
On the other, there are the neighbours, who make use of the surplus energy generated by the panels to consume clean, locally sourced energy without any investment, installation or long-term commitment, via a subscription model similar to that of any digital platform.

More than 20,000 households in Extremadura
In Extremadura, 20,000 families now have access to self-consumption thanks to the solar communities installed by Iberdrola España at various locations across the region, which now number 125, making it the region with the highest number of families accessing these Iberdrola España solar communities.
In Badajoz they are present in Almendralejo, Don Benito, Villanueva de la Serena, Villafranca de los Barros and the regional capital, among others. In the province of Cáceres, Iberdrola España has installed solar communities in the provincial capital itself as well as in Plasencia, Navalmoral, Miajadas and Coria, among others.
