The Iberdrola | bp pulse joint venture is set to mark a new milestone in the development of ultra-fast charging infrastructure along the Mediterranean Corridor with the construction of its largest charging station on the AP-7 motorway in the province of Valencia. The company will develop a megahub in the town of Moncada for both heavy goods vehicles and light vehicles, powered by 100% renewable energy and offering complementary services for users.

The company will build the future facility on an 8,336 square metres rural plot situated right in the heart of the road freight corridor, with direct access to the AP-7 and close to the industrial centres of Náquera, Moncada and Rafelbunyol. This strategic location will enable it to serve both long-haul fleets and light vehicles that travel daily within the Valencia metropolitan area.

Two deployment phases and up to 28 high-power charging points in the Valencia metropolitan area

The Moncada megahub project has been designed with a clear focus on progressive growth. Consequently its construction and commissioning will be carried out in two phases over an estimated period of five years. This approach will allow charging capacity to be adapted to the pace of electric vehicle adoption, particularly in road freight transport, optimising investment and ensuring a competitive service for users at all times.

In the first phase the hub will have 12 charging points for light vehicles and 2 specific points for heavy vehicles, with power outputs ranging from 100 to 400 kilowatts. This first phase will already provide fast and ultra-fast charging points for cars, vans and lorries, serving both long-distance journeys and daily commutes in the Valencia metropolitan area.

In a second phase the station will expand with a further 12 high-power charging points (100 to 400 kilowatts) for light vehicles and 2 additional points for heavy vehicles, bringing the total to 28 operational points. This expansion will consolidate the facility as one of the largest ultra-fast charging hubs on the AP-7 in the Valencia region, capable of simultaneously serving multiple private and commercial fleet vehicles.

With this modular configuration Iberdrola | bp pulse will provide high-power charging that will allow, under normal conditions, a range of around 200 to 300 kilometres to be achieved in approximately 10 minutes. In this way transport operators and drivers will be able to integrate charging stops into their routes easily and conveniently, enhancing the operational efficiency of their fleets.
