Iberdrola España and Universitat Jaume I (UJI) of Castellón have organized the event ‘Technological Innovation in Electromobility’ at the Aula Magna of the School of Technology and Experimental Sciences. The event aimed to bring together innovative companies in the field of sustainable mobility.
The opening ceremony was attended by Joaquín Beltrán, Vice-Rector for Academic Planning and Faculty of UJI; Ferran Menescal, Territorial Manager of AEDIVE in Catalonia; and Ibán Molina, Institutional Delegate of Iberdrola España in the Valencian Community, who highlighted the importance of electric mobility due to its significant role in decarbonizing the economy, demonstrating that it is a much more efficient technology than fossil fuel-based technologies.
The Iberdrola España delegate in the Valencian Community also emphasized the important role that electric vehicles will play in distributed generation, as they have the capacity to store energy in their batteries. To achieve this, he noted that a digitized distribution network adapted to these new possibilities is essential, and that distribution companies need adequate compensation to incentivize investment.
During the event, it became clear that the advancement of electric mobility is closely tied to the development of innovative technologies capable of transforming one of the fundamental pillars of any economy: the transport of passengers and goods.
Innovative companies in the electromobility sector, such as Iberdrola | bp pulse, Galeo Tech, Power Electronics, Irizar e-mobility, BeePlanet, and Abervian, presented the latest advancements in charging systems, with capacities of over one megawatt (MCS); various battery storage solutions that increase site efficiency; and the evolution of electric vehicles for passenger or freight transport on the road, along with initial steps in aerial mobility.
Iberdrola España, pioneers in sustainable mobility
Iberdrola España, in its commitment to promoting and facilitating access to electric vehicles, has surpassed 10,000 operational public charging points in Spain—an infrastructure capable of serving up to 1,000,000 electric vehicles. The company, firmly convinced of the energy transition and that a zero-emissions, more efficient mobility is possible, installed its first charging point in 2016. Today, 10 years later, it is a leader in charging across all power segments.
Iberdrola España’s public charging network enables travel across the entire country and on all types of routes, catering to user needs. It allows for charging 80% of the battery in less than 15 minutes, as well as slower charges for longer stops, such as while shopping, enjoying leisure centers, in shopping malls, or while working.
Currently, the company operates over 2,700 high-power charging points, including 1,300 ultra-fast charging points, managed by Iberdrola | bp pulse, an alliance formed in December 2023 by Iberdrola and bp. This alliance, a leader in ultra-fast charging at service stations in Spain, aims to accelerate the expansion of ultra-fast charging infrastructure.
