From 19 June to 19 July the Santiago de la Ribera seafront promenade is hosting the Prado Museum's most notable works for the enjoyment of the people of San Javier and all visitors wishing to experience this travelling exhibition
Since 2019 this exhibition, organised by the Foundation, has travelled to numerous regions across the country and continues its tour of the region after visiting Cehegín, Murcia and Lorca and will conclude in Mazarrón

The opening ceremony took place in San Javier and representatives from cultural institutions, the Prado Museum and the Iberdrola España Foundation attended along with local and regional authorities.

The Santiago de la Ribera Promenade in San Javier is transformed into an open-air museum thanks to the arrival of the travelling exhibition "El Prado en las Calles", with the aim of bringing the Prado Museum's great works to the residents of San Javier and visitors who wish to enjoy the works of the great masters of painting such as Goya, Velázquez, Zurbarán, Rubens, Dürer, Rembrandt, Bosch, Caravaggio, Titian and Sorolla amongst other paintings from the various schools of Western art.

The exhibition, organised jointly by the Prado National Museum, San Javier Town Council and the Regional Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport of the Region of Murcia, transforms the seafront promenade into an open-air museum, allowing residents and visitors to enjoy 50 large-format reproductions accompanied by QR codes providing access to additional content on the museum's various collections.

The opening ceremony featured speeches by José Miguel Luengo, Mayor of San Javier Town Council; Manuel Cebrián, Director of the Institute of Cultural Industries and the Arts of the Region of Murcia; Noelia Ibáñez Pérez, Head of Visitor Services at the Prado Museum; and Ramón Castresana Sánchez, Director of the Iberdrola España Foundation. Also in attendance were David Martínez, Councillor for Culture at San Javier Town Council, and Miguel Ángel Cerdán, Iberdrola Spain's institutional representative in the Region of Murcia.

During the exhibition's opening the mayor of San Javier highlighted "a privilege it is for the town to host an exhibition that brings some of the Prado National Museum's most iconic works to local residents and visitors alike". Luengo emphasised that the exhibition coincides with the summer tourist season and helps to enrich the cultural offering on San Javier's beaches, allowing people to enjoy art in an open space that is accessible to all. He also stated that it is an honour for the town to be part of this travelling cultural initiative.

Meanwhile Ramón Castresana highlighted that at the Iberdrola España Foundation "we firmly believe that art is a fundamental tool for cultural, social and educational development. Through "El Prado en las Calles" we bring masterpieces to audiences of all kinds, promoting cultural inclusion and creating new learning opportunities whilst fostering universal access to the history of painting and its great masters". He also highlighted the significance of 2026, which marks the company's 125th anniversary, and its wide range of activities for all citizens to enjoy.

Finally the Director-General of the Institute of Cultural Industries and the Arts of the Region of Murcia Manuel Cebrián stated that one of the regional government's key policies is "to bring high-quality culture on the doorstep of all residents of the region and make it accessible to all citizens. This is also the objective we share with the Iberdrola España Foundation and San Javier Town Council through this initiative".
