The Chairman of the Iberdrola Group, Ignacio Galán, and the Lehendakari, Imanol Pradales, have inaugurated the exhibition Parallels and Meridians at the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum.

The Executive Chairman of the Iberdrola Group, Ignacio Galán, and the Lehendakari, Imanol Pradales, today opened the exhibition ‘Parallels and Meridians’ at the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum. Organised to mark the company’s 125th anniversary, the exhibition comprises over a hundred representative works from the corporate art collection.

The exhibition coincides with the museum’s reopening following its extension and refurbishment and will run until 30 August.

The opening ceremony was also attended by Ibone Bengoetxea, First Deputy Lehendakari, Minister for Culture and Language Policy and President of the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum Foundation; Amaia Arregi, acting Mayor of Bilbao and acting Vice-President of the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum Foundation; Elixabete Etxanobe, Deputy General of Bizkaia and member of the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum Foundation; Ana Otadui, President of the General Assembly of Bizkaia; and Miguel Zugaza, Director of the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum.

With ‘Parallels and Meridians’, the Iberdrola Group, of which Iberdrola España forms part, reinforces its commitment to art and culture and to Bilbao, the city where it was founded in 1901 as Hidroeléctrica Ibérica.

The exhibition offers a journey through the Iberdrola Collection structured around two conceptual axes.

The ‘parallels’ reflect a chronological arc, from the beginnings of artistic modernity in the Basque Country in the late 19th century, through the development of the avant-garde movements from the 1950s onwards, to the more global artistic languages of the 21st century. For their part, the “meridians” structure the major themes that underpin the collection, including light, nature, ingenuity and labour.

Added to all this is the special connection to Bilbao, where Iberdrola España has maintained its headquarters since its foundation 125 years ago. In this context, ‘Parallels and Meridians’ presents to the public for the first time two views of the city painted by Antonio López from the Iberdrola Tower, which are still in progress.

The artistic itinerary stretches from Doña Casilda Iturrizar Park—featuring 24 panels that trace the key moments in the company’s history and link them to some of the most iconic works in its collection—to the atrium of Torre Iberdrola, where nine works will be on display, several of which have been created specifically for this space.

A celebration open to the whole of Spanish society

‘Parallels and Meridians’ forms part of the extensive programme of activities that the Iberdrola Group is rolling out throughout 2026 to mark its 125th anniversary. Under the slogan ‘125 light years’, the company is promoting a calendar of initiatives across Spain that includes art and technology exhibitions, music festivals, social events and the illumination of iconic buildings.

In this way, the company aims to share with its employees, customers, shareholders and society at large a success story marked by innovation, a commitment to people and its contribution to economic and social development through electrification, as well as its vision and outlook for the future.
