Iberdrola España is installing thermal insulation in homes in Calamocha (Teruel) at no cost to residents
- The work carried out on the roofs enables a reduction of up to 20% in fuel consumption for heating
- The rebates generated by Energy Saving Certificates (CAE) and the grouping of the work across eight owners' associations have made it possible to offset the cost of installation

Iberdrola España has improved the thermal insulation of more than 20 homes in Calamocha (Teruel) at no cost to their owners, thanks to the benefits associated with Energy Saving Certificates (CAE) and the grouping of eight residents' associations, which has enabled the project to be carried out more efficiently.
Improving the insulation of the homes enables savings of up to 20% on fuel consumption for heating, whether diesel, gas, firewood or other systems are used. The benefits extend to both winter and summer, and the work not only reduces energy consumption and the associated bills but also improves thermal comfort and the liveability of the homes while adding value to the property.
In the project carried out in Calamocha, the combination of Energy Saving Certificates (CAE) and the economies of scale generated by bringing together the eight owners' associations that took part has proved crucial, as coordinating the assessments and insulation works across several homes allows for the optimisation of the work and a reduction in costs, enabling Iberdrola España to cover 100% of the installation costs for homes lacking roof insulation.
Seeking new municipalities in Aragón
Valentín Viejo, Iberdrola España’s Commercial Delegate in Aragón, highlighted that the company’s aim “is to bring this experience to new municipalities. To achieve this, we are looking for local councils, associations and groups that can bring together homeowners interested in thermally insulating their homes at no cost”.
“We are organising information sessions across Aragón’s different comarcas, where we have already thermally insulated more than 300 homes, to explain the benefits of insulation and encourage homeowners to make this important improvement without having to pay anything upfront,” the Commercial Delegate said.
To carry out this expansion Iberdrola España is collaborating with the Aragonese company X-BLOW Insulation, which will take part in the next edition of Expocalamocha to continue raising awareness of the project and seek out new homeowners' associations interested in thermally insulating their homes at no cost.
The solution employed addresses one of the main sources of energy loss in a home – the roof – by incorporating mineral glass wool. The work can be carried out in a single day without any internal building work, whether in flats and detached houses with false ceilings or in detached properties with uninhabited loft spaces.
The insulation used is made from recycled glass, requires no maintenance and, as well as contributing to thermal comfort, improves sound insulation and fire protection.
