Monfragüe Half Marathon, backed by Iberdrola España, opens entries for its 20th anniversary edition
- The race celebrates two decades of history by bringing back its original route between Malpartida de Plasencia and Villarreal de San Carlos, right in the heart of Monfragüe

The Malpartida de Plasencia — Monfragüe Biosphere Reserve Half Marathon, Iberdrola Grand Prix, has opened registration for a special edition marking its 20th anniversary, cementing its status as one of the classic events on Extremadura's popular running calendar and boasting a route that is hard to find in any other competition.
To mark the 20th anniversary, organisers are reviving the original route from the event's early years, starting in Malpartida de Plasencia and finishing in Villarreal de San Carlos. This half-marathon route has become one of the race's hallmarks, allowing participants to immerse themselves in a unique landscape while tackling the 21 kilometres course.
The event will take place on 15 November, with the half marathon starting at 10am CET, in an event combining sport and nature in one of the most unique settings in the Extremadura region.
10k, a walking route and children's races
Alongside the main race, the organisers are maintaining the 10-kilometre event, which will start at El Cordel — with buses provided for transport — and also finish in Villarreal de San Carlos.
The programme will once again include a walking route from Malpartida de Plasencia to Villarreal de San Carlos, setting off at 8.30am, allowing participants to explore and enjoy the surroundings at a different pace as well as children's races so that the little ones can also take part in this sporting event.
The event will conclude with the traditional communal lunch at the Malpartida de Plasencia town hall, designed as a meeting point for runners, supporters, families, organisers and volunteers following the various activities.
Malpartida de Plasencia Town Council is organising the event and it will once again feature Iberdrola España as the main sponsor, lending its name to the Grand Prix. The 2026 edition also marks two special anniversaries: the 20th anniversary of the Monfragüe Half Marathon and the 125th anniversary of Iberdrola, which is commemorating its history, dating back to 1901, throughout this year.
According to the organisers, Iberdrola España's support thus contributes to the continuity of an event closely linked to the region, which, over the course of its 20 editions, has combined sporting activity with the promotion and awareness of a landmark natural area.
