Federico Sanmartín, CEO of EnergyLOOP, receiving the award from Vice President Aagesen alongside representatives from FCC Ámbito and Iberdrola
The Iberdrola Group, of which Iberdrola España is a part, and FCC Ámbito have been recognized for the EnergyLOOP plant in Navarra, dedicated to the recycling of wind turbine blades, as an Emblematic Project of the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan (PRTR) by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO).
This facility is located in the town of Cortes (Navarra) and is the first specifically dedicated to the recycling of wind turbine blades on the Iberian Peninsula, enabling the recycling of components from renewable installations, one of the sector's biggest medium- and long-term challenges.
Federico Sanmartín, managing director of EnergyLOOP, received the award from Sara Aagesen, Third Vice President of the Government of Spain and Minister for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, at an event held this Thursday as part of the presentation of the PRTR results at the Official College of Architects of Madrid.
This project will improve the competitiveness and sustainability of the sector through research and the implementation of new technologies that will allow for the absorption of growing amounts of waste and the adoption of increasingly efficient solutions. It is estimated that by 2030, nearly 5,700 wind turbines will be dismantled annually in Europe, coming from the repowering of parks or installations that have reached the end of their useful life.
