Fundación Iberdrola España unveils new exterior architectural illumination for the Co-Cathedral of Santa María de la Redonda

The new exterior lighting of the cathedral was officially inaugurated by Logroño City Council, the Diocese of Calahorra and La Calzada-Logroño and Fundación Iberdrola España.
The project reflects Fundación Iberdrola España's commitment to preserving and enhancing the region's historical and cultural heritage, with the Co-Cathedral of Santa María de la Redonda standing as one of Logroño's most important architectural and urban landmarks.

The Co-Cathedral of Santa María de la Redonda has undergone a comprehensive refurbishment of its exterior architectural lighting to restore a faithful, balanced and coherent night-time appearance in keeping with its heritage value. Thanks to a €225,000 investment by Fundación Iberdrola España, 122 new state-of-the-art LED luminaires have been installed, providing a total installed capacity of 6,213 W.

The use of the latest LED technology will significantly reduce both the cathedral's energy consumption and its electricity costs. The warm lighting has been carefully designed to enhance the sandstone masonry of the building and highlight the intricate details of its imposing western façade, created by Juan Bautista de Arbaiza, Juan Martín de Beratúa and Francisco Gorbea.

The inauguration ceremony took place in Plaza del Mercado, at the foot of the cathedral, and was attended by Bishop Santos Montoya Torres of the Diocese of Calahorra and La Calzada-Logroño, Víctor Jiménez, parish priest of the Co-Cathedral, Logroño Mayor Conrado Escobar, Jaime Alfonsín, Chairman of Fundación Iberdrola España, Raquel Murillo from Iberdrola's La Rioja delegation, among other guests.

According to Jaime Alfonsín, Chairman of Fundación Iberdrola España: "Preserving our heritage means not only protecting and safeguarding our monuments but also ensuring that they can continue to be admired and enjoyed by present and future generations. Through this initiative, Fundación Iberdrola España reaffirms its commitment to protecting and enhancing Spain's cultural heritage, demonstrating how innovation and sustainability can help showcase the great monuments that form part of our shared history and identity."
