Iberdrola España solar community

Iberdrola España reaffirms its commitment to the energy transition in Castilla-La Mancha, leveraging on the region's high solar radiation to promote collective self-consumption and consolidate solar communities that benefit the residential fabric, without the need for any investment by residents.

Iberdrola España has consolidated 32 operational communities in the region, benefiting 4,335 households, within the national framework of more than 1,000 solar communities that already serve more than 100,000 families.

Some of these solar communities in Castilla-La Mancha are located in Toledo (Borox, Cebolla, Sonseca), Guadalajara, Ciudad Real (Socuéllamos and Viso del Marqués) and Tarancón in Cuenca. Two of the most recent ones have been launched in the city of Albacete, installed on the roofs of Inmuebles Ferlo S.L., each with 261 solar panels. Both solar communities individually have a power of 119.9 kWp, enough to generate 181 MWh of energy annually each. the two communities in Albacete combined will prevent the release of around 36 tonnes of CO2 a year or the equivalent of the absorption of CO2 by around 1,700 trees in a year.

What is a solar community?

Iberdrola España's Solar Communities are based on collective self-consumption and consist of two main players: the owner of the roof who offers unused space to install solar panels and generate 100% renewable energy and the neighbours who must be located within up to 2 km from that roof and who use the energy generated by these panels to consume clean, local energy without any investment, installation or long-term commitment.

More than 3.5 million people in all Spanish provinces live within the radius of an Iberdrola España solar community located on the roofs of different types of buildings such as churches, schools, industrial warehouses and shopping centres.

Savings of up to 30% on electricity bills

The more than 1,000 solar communities launched by Iberdrola España allow customers to save up to 30% on their electricity bills and reduce their dependence on fossil fuels. Each solar community will prevent, on average, the release of around 640 tonnes of CO₂ into the atmosphere over the next 30 years, improving air quality in the areas where they are installed.

Iberdrola España, leader in self-consumption

As part of its commitment to accelerating the energy transition, Iberdrola España leads the self-consumption market in Spain. The company's customers in this category have access to the Solar Plan, a competitive electricity rate at times when there is no sun, which is when energy needs to be consumed from the grid, since during the day they are self-sufficient using their own installation.

Iberdrola España allows power that is not consumed to be fed into the grid in exchange for compensation through the Solar Cloud service or even diverted for consumption at another residence.
