From 6 March to 12 April, the Jardín del Convento will display some of the most emblematic works from the Museo Nacional del Prado for residents and visitors alike
Since 2019, the exhibition, promoted by Fundación Iberdrola España, has toured numerous regions across Spain and will continue its journey in towns such as Murcia, Lorca and San Javier

From today until 12 April, residents of Cehegín and visitors will be able to enjoy a unique cultural experience featuring 50 large-format photographic reproductions of some of the most emblematic works from the Museo Nacional del Prado. Universal masters such as Francisco de Goya, Diego Velázquez, Peter Paul Rubens, Albrecht Dürer, Rembrandt, Hieronymus Bosch, Caravaggio and Joaquín Sorolla are represented in the exhibition thanks to the collaboration between the Prado Museum, Iberdrola España, through Fundación Iberdrola España, and the Regional Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Sports of the Region of Murcia.

To enrich the visitor experience, each bilingual information panel includes QR codes that provide access to additional content about the museum’s collections.

The opening ceremony was attended by Alicia del Amor, Mayor of Cehegín; María Muñoz, Director General of Youth Affairs for the Region of Murcia; Ana Moreno, General Coordinator of Education at the Prado Museum; as well as Jaime Alfonsín, Executive Chairman of the Iberdrola Spain Foundation; Ramón Castresana, director of the same, and Miguel Cerdán, institutional delegate in the region for the company, among others, as representatives of the Brotherhood of the Virgin of Las Maravillas.

According to the mayor, “it is a joy to host an exhibition such as El Prado en las Calles. Being able to contemplate such important works in an open space like the Convent Garden is an opportunity worth taking advantage of. We wanted this exhibition to be part of the programme for the Jubilee Year marking the 300th anniversary of the arrival of the Virgin of Las Maravillas in our municipality, because we are experiencing a very special year and want culture to play a leading role.”

Jaime Alfonsín emphasised that the initiative reflects the Fundación’s commitment “to bringing art and culture closer to citizens by taking them to squares and open spaces so that people can engage with the heritage of one of the most important museums in the world.” He also invited everyone “to walk through the exhibition, stop in front of each work and enjoy this open-air museum now brought to life in Cehegín.”

The president of Fundación Iberdrola España recalled that this year marks the 125th anniversary of the company, which will bring a range of activities across Spain for the enjoyment of all citizens.

Following the opening ceremony, catalogues from the Prado Museum were presented to the documentary collection of the Cehegín Municipal Library, and attendees were encouraged to visit the exhibition to enjoy the most important schools of Western art –Flemish, Italian, French, German and Dutch–as well as Spanish, all of which are represented in the exhibition.

Since its launch in 2019, El Prado en las Calles has travelled across Spain and attracted large numbers of visitors in regions such as Castilla-La Mancha, Castilla y León, Extremadura, Andalusia and the Valencian Community. In total, the exhibition has visited 58 municipalities.
