Iberdrola España drives energy-efficient renovation of more than 500 homes in Andalusia

Projects in Sierra Magina and Las Protegidas, in Jaen, and in La Chana, neighbourhood of Granada, will reduce energy consumption, improve home comfort and generate local economic activity

Iberdrola España is promoting three energy-efficient renovation projects in Andalusia that will benefit 510 homes in the provinces of Jaen and Granada. The projects will reduce household energy consumption and bills, improve the thermal comfort of homes and contribute to the modernisation and improved energy efficiency of Andalusia’s housing stock.

The projects are being developed in the Sierra Magina municipality and in the Las Protegidas residential area, both in Jaen, and in the La Chana neighbourhood of Granada. The projects include thermal insulation, highly efficient electrical solutions such as aerothermal systems, solar PV self-consumption and accessibility improvements.

In these cases, Iberdrola España acts as a renovation agent under the delegated developer model and is responsible for the comprehensive management of the process, including processing the grants available to families and the Energy Saving Certificates (ESCs), which allow immediate discounts to be applied to the cost of the work.

Energy-efficient renovation is becoming established as one of the main tools for permanently reducing household energy consumption, improving home comfort and lowering energy bills. These measures can achieve savings of up to 70% in energy consumption and, depending on the characteristics of each property and usage habits, a similar reduction in households’ energy expenditure.

Three Iberdrola España projects in Jaen and Granada

In the Sierra Magina municipality in Jaen, the projects cover 186 homes and involve a total investment of €5.4 million, 75% of which is financed through European Next Generation funds. The project will improve the energy efficiency of the buildings by electrifying their boilers, achieving thermal energy production that is 100% free of fossil fuels and an estimated reduction of close to 40% in families’ energy bills.

Also in the province of Jaen, Iberdrola España is promoting the energy renovation of 140 homes in the Las Protegidas residential area, built in the 1950s. The projects include thermal insulation, solar PV self-consumption and accessibility improvements, with the aim of modernising the buildings, reducing their energy consumption and improving home comfort.

In Granada, meanwhile, the renovation project in the La Chana neighbourhood is progressing at a good pace. It will benefit 184 homes across 14 buildings. The project has received a €4.5 million grant from the Regional Government of Andalusia under the Neighbourhoods Programme (Programa Barrios), Line 1, funded by the Next Generation funds. It will eliminate fossil fuel consumption, reduce energy consumption, improve the thermal comfort of homes and permanently lower household energy bills.

The three projects demonstrate that energy-efficient renovation is not a solution for the future, but a reality that is already improving the quality of life of hundreds of families in Andalusia. In addition to reducing energy consumption and bills, these projects generate economic activity and local employment in sectors linked to construction, installation, engineering and energy services.
