Iberdrola España has launched Estancias Verdes, a new programme aimed at SMEs in the tourism sector — including rural guesthouses, hotels, holiday apartments, hostels and holiday resorts — with the goal of supporting their transition towards a more sustainable, efficient and competitive model, with potential savings of up to 70%.

The initiative forms part of Un País para Cuidarlo, a movement promoted by Iberdrola España to foster economic and social development based on sustainability, innovation and environmental stewardship, while highlighting the role of businesses as key agents of change.

At a time when sustainability, energy efficiency and digitalisation have become critical drivers of competitiveness in the tourism sector, Iberdrola España is offering a comprehensive solution that combines green energy, specialised technical advice and tools to enhance commercial visibility.

Through Estancias Verdes, tourism accommodation providers will receive personalised support from Iberdrola España specialists, who will analyse their energy performance and propose specific measures to improve efficiency and reduce environmental impact.

The programme is built around four key pillars: the preparation of a carbon footprint report, providing clear, actionable data to support decision-making and communication with customers; a comprehensive energy assessment, including recommendations such as the installation of photovoltaic solar panels, aerothermal systems, improved thermal insulation and electric vehicle charging points; free energy advisory services, including an analysis of available grants and the calculation of potential revenues derived from Energy Saving Certificates (CAE in Spain); and access to a 100% renewable electricity tariff tailored to the needs of the tourism sector, enabling optimisation of consumption and reduction of operating costs.

To join the programme and retain the Estancia Verde label, accommodation providers must implement some of the recommended efficiency measures or subscribe to the 100% renewable electricity tariff within a maximum period of 12 months.

One of the programme’s key features is access to the Mi Iberdrola platform, which has more than 2 million users. Through this channel, accommodation providers can promote their establishments without paying booking commissions, unlike traditional platforms, thereby improving both profitability and visibility.

Establishments participating in Estancias Verdes will also become part of the Iberdrola España business community, gaining access to exclusive training, specialised webinars, sector-specific events and content focused on sustainability, innovation and digitalisation. This initiative aims to foster a collaborative ecosystem that supports the transformation of the tourism sector.

“With Estancias Verdes, we aim to support the more than 30,000 SMEs operating in this sector in Spain at a critical moment for their competitiveness. Today, efficiency, sustainability and digitalisation are not just opportunities, but necessities. Our goal is to provide them with the resources, knowledge and visibility they need to transition towards a more sustainable and profitable energy model,” said Jon Macazaga.
