Visit to the hydraulics laboratory facilities in Ricobayo, Zamora

A large delegation from the Hydraulics Laboratory at the Centre for Hydrographic Studies (CEDEX) visited Iberdrola España's Training Campus and the Ricobayo hydraulics laboratory facilities in Zamora, as part of the partnership between the two organisations to promote technical training and innovation in energy.

During the visit, they saw first-hand the training and technological capabilities of the Iberdrola España Campus, as well as the advances in research and development carried out at the hydraulics laboratory in Muelas del Pan, Zamora, a national benchmark in hydroelectric infrastructure testing and simulation.

It should be noted that the hydraulics laboratory was a centre for study and research for the company when it faced its great energy challenge in the Duero system and other scenarios such as the Sil. It maintains scale models of the most representative dams, which provide a precise explanation of the power and impact of the major floods that flow from the rivers, as well as how to drain off excess water to not compromise the safety of the dams and prevent the deterioration of the riverbeds into which millions of litres per second can flow suddenly.

The Ricobayo Training Campus welcomes thousands of professionals and students every year, establishing itself as a benchmark for technical training and knowledge refreshers in renewable energy and hydraulics.

The visit strengthened the ties of partnership between CEDEX and Iberdrola España, promoting knowledge exchange and the identification of new joint opportunities in the areas of training, innovation and the development of sustainable solutions for the hydraulics sector.

The meeting is part of Iberdrola España's commitment to training excellence and knowledge transfer, as well as CEDEX's commitment to applied research and technological development in the field of hydraulics.

CEDEX is a leading public body in Spain specialising in research, development and innovation in civil engineering and the environment. Part of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, it offers advanced technical support through studies, tests and expert advice on infrastructure, hydraulics, transport and sustainability.
