Belvís de Monroy (Cáceres) hosted the latest stop on the Summer Microfilm Festival on Monday, organised by the Vente a Vivir a un Pueblo platform in partnership with Iberdrola España. The initiative forms part of the company’s commitment to enriching cultural life in rural communities and showcasing the quality of life that small towns have to offer.

The free event brought together local residents and visitors for an open-air cinema evening featuring a selection of award-winning micro-short films from competitions organised by Iberdrola España and Cultura Inquieta.

The evening concluded with a screening of Pioneras. Solo querían jugar (Pioneers: They Just Wanted to Play), which tells the story of the pioneering women footballers who broke new ground in the 1970s, laying the foundations for the remarkable growth of the women’s game in Spain. Iberdrola España has championed equality in sport for the past decade through its support for the Spanish women’s national football team and numerous national sports federations.

Organised in collaboration with Belvís de Monroy Town Council, the event transformed a summer evening into a gathering for local residents and visitors alike, with free popcorn, soft drinks and giveaways adding to the festive atmosphere.

The Summer Microfilm Festival will continue its tour of towns across Spain throughout the summer, bringing culture to rural communities while showcasing them as attractive places to live, work and enjoy leisure time.

Extremadura, one of Iberdrola España’s key growth regions

Over the past two years, Iberdrola España has generated an economic impact of €1 billion in Extremadura—around €500 million per financial year—reinforcing its position as one of the region’s leading economic drivers. In 2025, the company purchased nearly €70 million worth of goods and services from around 115 suppliers in Extremadura, helping to strengthen the regional economy while creating new opportunities for industry and innovation in a growing export-oriented market.

Belvís de Monroy: a benchmark for energy storage

Belvís de Monroy, this year’s host of the Summer Microfilm Festival, is also home to one of Iberdrola España’s flagship energy storage projects. Last May, the company inaugurated Spain’s largest battery energy storage system at the Campo Arañuelo I and II complex, with a storage capacity of 120 MWh.

The new facility marks another milestone in Iberdrola España’s energy storage strategy, helping to accommodate new electricity demand that requires a secure and reliable supply while accelerating the electrification of the economy.
