The event featured representatives from the Green Building Council, the Sierra Mágina and Las Protegidas projects, the EC's JRC, the Muñoz Cariñanos Hospital — Virgen del Rocío University Hospital, the Official Association of Technical Architects of Seville, AFAR, RefriClima, Epyme, Spain's Permanent Representation to the EU and AVRA.

CTA (Andalusian Technology Corporation) and the Q-Cero Alliance for the decarbonization of thermal demand in Spain, in collaboration with Iberdrola España, held a technical conference on the opportunities presented to Andalusia by the decarbonization of buildings at the headquarters of the Official Association of Technical Architects of Seville. The meeting served to analyze with the sector how to move toward more efficient and decarbonized buildings, combining climate ambition with technical and economic realism.

Gonzalo Sáenz de Miera, Director of Climate Change and Partnerships at Iberdrola España and representative of the Q-Cero Alliance, emphasized that "Andalusia cannot depend on fossil fuels imported from abroad, and that solutions and technologies exist to make this possible through building retrofits. Improving efficiency and electrifying heating with technologies such as heat pumps represent an opportunity to enhance comfort, reduce the cost of climate control and leverage local resources".

Likewise Sáenz de Miera emphasized that "This transition offers, a great economic and employment opportunity" and that "Andalusia has the industrial and professional capabilities to lead this transformation." He advocated for "the need to promote policies that incentivize action, reduce energy prices to leverage the competitive advantage provided by renewable energy in Spain and foster collaboration among government agencies, companies and the ecosystem of stakeholders to accelerate a fair, viable and scalable energy transition."

For his part CTA President Beltrán Pérez explained that, "at CTA, we work to connect and accelerate innovative projects that turn the decarbonization of buildings into a real engine of economic and social transformation." He also stated that "CTA plays a key role in facilitating the collaboration between companies, government agencies and the expertise required for the decarbonization of buildings."

More than 80 participants attended the event, including building professionals, manufacturers and installers of construction and insulation materials, heating and gas installers, property managers, energy service companies, industry representatives, financial institutions, public administrations and knowledge stakeholders interested in understanding how to turn the decarbonization of buildings into a lever for growth, comfort and competitiveness for Andalusia.

The Executive Director of the Green Building Council Spain, Dolores Huerta, explained why now is the time for building retrofits. Meanwhile representatives from the Sierra Mágina and Las Protegidas projects (residential sector), the European Commission's JRC and the Muñoz Cariñanos Hospital — Virgen del Rocío University Hospital (hospital sector) presented their respective success stories in building decarbonization, demonstrating that this transformation is possible and brings significant benefits to building occupants.

Representatives from the Official Association of Technical Architects of Seville, AFAR (Association of Andalusian Refrigeration Manufacturers), RefriClima (Andalusian Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Cluster) and Epyme (Provincial Association of Installation Companies of Seville) discussed "Building decarbonization as an opportunity for the Andalusian economy" during a roundtable moderated by Germán López, Senior Energy Innovation Consultant at CTA.

Finally Francisco Javier Martín, Housing Advisor at the Permanent Representation of Spain to the EU, and Francisco Javier Díaz, Director General of AVRA (Andalusian Housing and Renovation Agency), discussed new policies to promote building renovation and energy efficiency.
