Iberdrola España solar community

Iberdrola España is advancing its commitment to renewable self-consumption in Andalusia with the commissioning of three new solar communities in the province of Málaga, two located in Málaga city and one in the municipality of Álora. These facilities will supply locally generated, 100% renewable energy to nearby households and small businesses.

The solar communities are located on Calle Sigfrido and Calle Flauta Mágica in Málaga, and in the Molina de Álora Industrial Estate. With a combined installed capacity of 357 kWp and a total of 776 solar panels, the installations will generate approximately 565 MWh of clean energy each year, avoiding an estimated 112 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually.

Thanks to these solar communities, around 660 families will benefit from collective self-consumption, enabling them to reduce their electricity bills without any upfront investment or the need to own or access rooftop space.

With these new additions, Andalusia is consolidating its position as one of the key regions for the deployment of Iberdrola España’s collective self-consumption model. The company already operates more than 100 solar communities across the autonomous community, in line with its objective of advancing the sustainable electrification of the territory.

More than 1,000 communities across Spain

Nationwide, Iberdrola España has surpassed the milestone of 1,000 solar communities, providing access to self-consumption for more than 100,000 families. The company pioneered self-consumption solutions for its customers in 2015 and, in 2019, launched its solar community model in response to the fact that more than two-thirds of the population lives in apartment buildings. This system enables any resident located within two kilometres of a solar installation to access locally generated, 100% renewable energy.

Iberdrola España continues to strengthen its commitment to collective self-consumption as a customer-focused solution that supports the energy transition at the local level and brings the benefits of renewable energy closer to society as a whole.
