Higueruela (Albacete) hosted the latest stop on the fourth Summer Microfilm Festival last night, organised by the Vente a Vivir a un Pueblo platform in partnership with Iberdrola España. The initiative forms part of the company’s commitment to enriching cultural life in rural communities and showcasing the quality of life that small towns have to offer.

The free event attracted a full audience of local residents and visitors, who enjoyed an open-air cinema evening celebrating sustainability, shared values and rural life. The programme featured a selection of award-winning micro-short films from competitions organised by Iberdrola España and Cultura Inquieta.

The evening concluded with a screening of Pioneras. Solo querían jugar (Pioneers: They Just Wanted to Play), directed by Marta Díaz de Lope Díaz and winner of the Biznaga de Plata Audience Award at the Málaga Film Festival. The documentary tells the story of the pioneering women footballers who broke new ground in the 1970s, laying the foundations for the remarkable growth of the women’s game in Spain. Iberdrola España has championed equality in sport for the past decade through its support for the Spanish women’s national football team and numerous national sports federations.

Organised in collaboration with Higueruela Town Council, the event transformed a summer evening into a gathering for local residents and visitors alike, with free popcorn, soft drinks and giveaways adding to the festive atmosphere.

This summer, the Summer Microfilm Festival, organised by the Vente a Vivir a un Pueblo platform and Iberdrola España, will continue its tour of towns across Spain, bringing open-air cinema and culture to rural communities while creating opportunities for people to come together. Upcoming stops include Ventas de Huelma (Granada), Ayora and Zarra (Valencia), Belvís (Cáceres), Aldeadávila (Salamanca) on 21 July, and Muras (Lugo) on 22 July.

Castilla-La Mancha, a strategic region for Iberdrola España

Iberdrola España continues to strengthen its commitment to Castilla-La Mancha through investment in electricity networks and renewable energy projects, including the repowering of the Isabela and Molar del Molinar wind farms in Albacete. Cultural initiatives such as the Summer Microfilm Festival reinforce the company's ties with communities linked to renewable energy, including Higueruela and Peñas de San Pedro, where similar events were held last year. They also complement other cultural activities supported by Iberdrola España in the region, such as its participation in this summer's Almagro International Classical Theatre Festival.
