Toledo Renewables Operation Centre (CORE)

The Renewable Energy Operations Centre (or CORE) is in the heart of Castilla-La Mancha, in Toledo. It is a technological benchmark that monitors the operation of Iberdrola España's wind and photovoltaic facilities in real time, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Opened in 2003 and with more than 22 years of experience today, CORE began by monitoring 29 Spanish wind farms. Today, it supervises more than 3,000,000 data points in real time and controls more than 13 GW of active power. Access to this data provides the company with extensive technical knowledge which, together with the standardisation and digitalisation of operational processes, is extremely useful for acting with greater precision and consistency.

It was the first facility of its kind to be launched worldwide and soon made Toledo an international benchmark in the field of renewable energy

From its facilities in Toledo, a team of 50 highly qualified professionals, including computer engineers, telecommunications engineers, data analysts and renewable energy technicians, is responsible for supervising, optimising and ensuring the continuous operation of the renewable plants Iberdrola España operates.

Castilla-La Mancha, a strategic territory for Iberdrola España

The CORE is based in Castilla-La Mancha not by chance, but as a reflection of Iberdrola España's firm commitment to this Autonomous Community. The region leads the nation in the ranking of land area dedicated to renewables and has first-rate solar and wind resources, as well as firm institutional support that has enabled the development of a number of projects.

Technology at the service of sustainability

From CORE, Iberdrola España is strengthening its leadership in clean energy with analysis and control tools so it can anticipate incidents, maximise generation efficiency and improve renewables’ integration into the electricity grid. This infrastructure is key to ensuring the quality of renewable supply, even during summer production peaks.

And the centre continues to expand: the increase in installed megawatts requires new talent, making CORE a long-term hub for skilled jobs in Toledo and its surrounding area.

Iberdrola España, commitment to a sustainable future in Castilla-La Mancha

With more than two decades of consolidated presence in Castilla-La Mancha, Iberdrola España reaffirms its role as a key player in the energy transition, the creation of green jobs and the revitalisation of rural areas. From Toledo, the CORE symbolises not only a control centre, but also an example of how renewable energy can drive development, innovation and global sustainability.

Castilla-La Mancha is one of the Spanish Autonomous Communities where Iberdrola España has the most installed capacity, with more than 2,600 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy distributed across onshore wind farms (1,738 MW), solar farms (528 MW) and hydroelectric plants (311 MW). The company is present in all of its provinces through 85 clean energy facilities, in Cuenca (975 MW), Albacete (823 MW), Guadalajara (470 MW), Toledo (288 MW) and Ciudad Real (105 MW).
