Supermercados El Jamón
Iberdrola España and Supermercados El Jamón have signed an agreement to install 26 electric vehicle charging points at 11 of the group’s supermarkets, located in the provinces of Huelva, Seville, Málaga, Cádiz and Córdoba, including the company’s headquarters in Lepe.
The project involves the installation of 50 kW direct current (DC) chargers. The charging points will be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, enabling customers to charge their electric vehicles both during and outside store opening hours.
The 15-year agreement forms part of Iberdrola España’s strategy to continue expanding its public charging network in high-traffic, everyday locations such as supermarkets.
According to Borja Cañas, Iberdrola España’s commercial delegate in Andalusia, “this agreement allows us to bring electric mobility closer to everyone by expanding our charging network in convenient, everyday locations and making it easier for users to charge their vehicles while shopping.”
José Antonio Muriel, Head of Operations at Supermercados El Jamón, added: “With this initiative, we are introducing a service that fits seamlessly into our customers’ daily routines: the ability to charge their vehicles while shopping, with 24/7 availability and 100% renewable energy. It represents another step forward in our commitment to sustainability and to continuously enhancing the in-store experience.”
The electricity supplied at these charging points will be 100% renewable, backed by a Guarantee of Origin (GoO) certificate, ensuring that it comes from clean energy sources.
More than 10,000 electric charging points in Spain
Iberdrola España closed 2025 with more than 10,800 public charging points in operation across Spain, 1,557 of which are located in Andalusia. The company maintains agreements with retail chains and commercial operators to install charging infrastructure in everyday locations.
With this initiative, Supermercados El Jamón is incorporating electric vehicle charging infrastructure at its stores, in line with its commitment to sustainability and to improving the services offered to customers.
New features in the electric mobility app
Iberdrola España supports the rollout of Spain’s largest charging infrastructure network with its electric mobility app, the highest-rated in the sector, with more than 400,000 users. The app enables users to manage their charging sessions by locating nearby charging points, checking their real-time status, making reservations and receiving notifications when charging is complete.
The company has recently introduced new features to enhance user information and experience, including a route planner designed to optimise charging times during trips; a report detailing historical charging consumption and expenditure; personalised guidance for new electric vehicle users; photos of charging points and stations; travel plan suggestions; and a new user community offering useful information and the latest sector news and updates.
