Iberdrola España has been awarded the contract to supply electricity to the municipal offices and facilities of the Mérida City Council in Extremadura. The agreement covers a total of 370 supply points, with an estimated annual consumption of 8 gigawatt hours (GWh), covering practically all of the facilities belonging to the Mérida City Council.

According to Borja Cañas, Iberdrola España's sales representative in Extremadura, this is a major award because the energy company will be responsible for the supply of the regional capital, consolidating its commitment to the region and its leadership.

With this award, Cañas said, Iberdrola España will guarantee electricity supply ‘in terms of quality, safety and efficiency, reinforcing its commitment to more sustainable energy management’.

Virtually all municipal facilities in Mérida

The agreement will comprehensively cover all the energy needs of municipal facilities, including municipal premises and administrative offices, social and cultural centres, sports facilities, pavilions and swimming pools. The agreement also covers primary and secondary schools and educational centres, as well as public lighting, traffic lights, ornamental fountains, parks and gardens.

Iberdrola España will also provide the council with an online platform so it can monitor and control facilities’ billing, optimise the contracted power and analyse consumption, and so it can design a strategy for saving and optimising energy in municipal utilities.

The agreement has an initial duration of one year, with the possibility of extension for a further year, which will ensure the continuity of the service under the same economic and technical conditions.
